Nope, the outpostuniverse version has them disabled, after excessive abuse in multiplayer. Can't be enabled without hacking.

You can play the original cd version if you want cheats. But be aware that that is not compatible with our version, so for multiplayer, you need ours.

Cheat codes will no longer work with the OPU version - unless you know enough about coding to make them work again.

Even if I knew how to enable cheats in the opu version, I wouldn't tell you, because that knowledge could possibly be abused.

I do anyway not know what's so great about cheats.

Well the only plus side I can see to cheats, would probably be that you could for once complete the Plymouth Cold War mission on any setting.

With the help of Hooman, I actually attached code to the old cheat parser for that old project of mine. And with that I learned other things, like: the code to read cheats and execute them is basically stripped from the game.

If you'll find an old topic in the files forum of someone who wanted to distribute a working cheat mod, you'll also learn why we discourage it.

Though in order to cheat in multiplayer you'd have to install the mod on every client involved.

In multiplayer, all clients would have to be modified for cheats to not simply cause a major desync.

That's what I thought. Outpost 2 is designed to run on each machine seperately and any modification of just one instance of the game would negate that assumption, and therefore wouldn't work.

I suppose there isn't a real danger in hacking a cheat system in, as we already confirmed by those experiments Hidiot and the others did on hijacking the OP2 message system, which I have based my mission DistantNoise on. The source code samples by Hidiot can even be found in the cpp files in my thread.

I've seen 2 separate programs/trainers or whatever you would like to call them, that would work with OP2 and would allow the user to cheat in both single player and multiplayer.

So it can actually be done.

So these actually solve the problem of desynchronization? Or do they cause different effects?

I'm not a programmer, so I have no clue on how they would work. Bot was separate programs for OP2 though.

The first one I came across was used while WON still existed and would allow you to get 10k common and 10k rare or - even if you had no storage room for it in your colony.
It was a separate program you could download on some weird webpage I remember.

The 2nd one, was posted here on the forums, by someone who meant well I suppose, but never realized the scope of what he was doing. It was also a program, similar to the first one I described, but in multiplayer it would only work for the person hosting the game.. or player #1 to put it another way. So even if player #6 used the program, player #1 would get the bonus :P

My statement applied to the game's built-in cheats, to clarify.

Once I was in a multiplayer match many years ago. For some reason, a black box popped up and told everyone that cheats had been activated.

Outpost 2 does some strange stuff sometimes.

As I recall an early version of Forsaken World had a bug that caused that message to pop up.
