How about this :D

Everyone in the Forum has a 'job' like the colonists do in OP2. The "Job" is just a title or something, but It would be fun to put people into 'groups' based on what they do most at the Community

IE: Scientists, Mechanics, Plain old people... etc.

The 'jobs' could be under the 'member groups' thingie or whatever, People would be in like the Mechanic Group for programming, etc...

Just something fun I recently thought of.

If it doesn't make sense.. lemme know and I'll clarify it :D

That would be just about everyone other than myself :heh:

I like the idea as a member group thing, as long as it doesn't take away custom titles (you know, the thing where you reach a certain post count and can make your own personal title)

No, I'm not asking for work; I've got things to work on already, so I'm really booked. Maybe have a 2nd title under the one that you create/the one you get for X number of posts. Like for me: 3D Modeler/Project Leader. The Admins would have to change it initialy, and then we could use like 1000 points to change it once even if we aren't an admin.

I'm liking it.

Since they're so many coders though, you might want to split them up by experience, or project or whatever.

'Master Mechanic'
'Apprentice Mechanic'

'Master Scientist'
'Apprentice Scientist'

'Elder'

'Newborn' (That's hot)

'Worker'
'Worker In Training'

I'll come up with more :D Great idea though bro.

People like Hooman and Hacker are probably scientists, because they find/found out lots of info on op2.

LOL@ Eddy-B's post!

YEA LETS MAKE EDDY THE ELDER~!!!!!  :heh:
AND ME THE NEWBORN!!!!!!

Just kidding  B)

I'd probably be a Master________ of 3D Graphics

Oh, lets have it like this:
"2nd Title"
 next line:
Area of expertise that this title pertains to

Ok we need definitions for the Mechanics and Workers:
IE: Workers are people who code
But what would mechanics be? :o

So where would I fit in, since I have written novellas, hacked OP2 (although I can't do anything programming-wise), and have made several Colony Games?

How about colony makers are surveyors?

and novella writers could be entertainers, actors, historians or some other word?

meh, that all sounds like a lot of work for something that is totally meaningless.

Editing the post/title count, maybe. (the title you get for x number of posts)

I think the point made that many people here do different things and don't fit under one title has been missed by most people here. If you can only have 1 title, what would it be? Besides, why bother doing work when you can change your title anyways?  :) Just pick whatever makes you happy.

I think this would be nifty, but would require alot of work for something so.. kind of useless in my eyes. Most likely if someone is working on this then time will be taken away from working on something more important like new maps or the map editor

I think the community needs both Combat and Space Administration personell...

Just to add a couple of branches.

Might be a good idea to chose an initial work group. (i.e. soldier, worker, student etc). Then let each person work his way up. (following with the 3 previous examples, Combat Commander, Factory Leader/Manager, Scientist/Professor)

Hopefully you all get the idea

Yeah, that could work.

I have no idea how to implement my earlier idea, just thought I should post it. Might bring something good with it  ;)

So, OPU would be like a clan with 'ranks' and whatnot. We could have the 'coding' commitee. The Graphics Comittee.  The Site Admin Comittee, The Insert_Name_Here comittee. Each one of these would be the seperate title under the one we currently have. This could help motivate people into getting involved with the community. (ie projects and whatnot, it doesn't necessarly have to be an OP3 or something   )

So, overall, we would have the graphics guru (s)
The Coding Guru(s)
The Hacking guru(s)
etc.

This could be fun  (thumbsup)

The Development Guru(s)
The Writing Guru(s)

etc.

Ok, so in "OP2" terms, how would we classify each person? (like how thablkpanda said it wayy up top)

Mechanics
Scientists
Workers
Entertainers
Mr-Fix-It (for the guy who fixes the most things and stuff on OPU, cough cough, Hooman or hacker ;))

Again, we would have the things like: Master Mechanic, Apprencice Mechanic... etc.

How about we make this something always displayed in one's signature;
like for me:
Master _____ (another name for gfx design guy)
Aprentice Mechanic or something... i don't know

how about:
Mapping Guru(s)= are surveyors and we would have Master Surveyor and just Surveyor for two ranks
Coding Guru(s)= they could be called those bio doctors I don't remember their names but it was what the bad lady was :P
The Hacking guru(s) I don't have a clue what we could call them
The Development Guru(s)=Scientists, that one is pretty clear
The Writing Guru(s)=Entertainers or some other nicer word meaning the same thing
graphics guru (s)= I don't have a clue here ether
