Server, Forum and XMPP
« on: August 17, 2013, 10:27:46 AM »
I just finished moving all the websites over to another server, your DNS may take a day or two to update. If you have any problems private message me.

I will be changing the forum software from Invision Powerboard to Simple Machines Forum today. IPB v1.3 is outdated and a new version is not free. I cannot update the server to the latest builds of PHP because of incompatibilities between IPB and the newest version of PHP.

XMPP has been transferred to the new server and updated to the most recent build. DNS may take a day or two to changeover. I have since shutdown XMPP on the old server so you will not be able to connect to it.
Take me to your leader! I bare the claws of a corndog.

Nice to see that you still care about opu. IPB 1.3 is ancient software, so the switch to SMF seems like a good idea. I'm confident that everything will work well or better.

This is getting kind of strange. Also, is the forum interface supposed to be replaced by pure text with a white background? Because I have difficulties navigating.

And we already have a major problem with spam bots. And avatars aren't being resized.

Whew, having trouble getting along with the forum interface. However, I think it could be worse. We could have lost the bump thread.

The forums are not loading properly for me and I lose connection to them randomly. Any idea what's going on? I really don't want to lose this place!

The forums work for me well (be it a bit ugly). I wouldn't know what you are experiencing.

Yes, its still a matter of luck. Half of the time I cannot connect to forum.outpost2.net. When I can connect, half of the time the style sheet is not loaded.

The forum and website are working fine for me, now.

We need to do something against the bots, though.

Replace the math question at registration with the OPU-specific question we used to have on the IPB forums.

Its time to get the New Terra skin back. I volunteer to port it to the new forum engine. Just give me the files.

Thanx for letting everyone know personally about this (yes, that was sarcasm: one email would have sufficed).

Anyway, I now seem to be missing data from august 17 until october  7th. Is it possible to receive the latest backup of the old server (october 4th, i believe it was rebooted?). All i need is the MySQL database backup, so i can try and fit the data back in, although the auto-increments are going to be tricky :(

All in all, i'm glad it's all up and running again.
