Lateral Thinking Puzzle
« on: July 16, 2004, 12:45:59 AM »
A man stepped out of a speeding train to his death,  He had ben on his own in the compartment, and all that was found there was a very large handkerchief.  If he had made the journey by any means other than trin, he would almost certainly not have decided to commit suicide.  Why did he take his life?

The man had just completed a course of treatment intended to cure him of blindness.  He had high hopes of success.  He travelled home on the train with the handkerchief as a blindfold to protect his eyes from the light.

He could not wait and decided to remove the blindfold to test his eyesight.  When he removed the blindfold, he could see nothing and assumed that the treatment had failed.  He could not face the future as a blind man and, therefore, he stepped out of the speeding train to his death.

The treatment had, in fact, been successful, but he had unfortunately removed the blindfold while the train was in a long tunnel.  The carriage was in complete darkness.

Not bad...:P try this:

A young woman entered the house and opened the chest of drawers. She grabbed some paper and a gun. She has gone to the kitchen and burned the papers and then shot herself. Before her death she only dropped a wet handkerchief. (not the thing that comes from the nose :P) Why did she killed herself?

kiith, you have the book, don't you?

Was her decision directally related to the burning of the paper?

the papers were divorce papers that were unfair to her (mabe after the divorce she woudl get nothing, and have no life, her reputation shattered and she would have no future)

in a last act of defience she burned the papers, but to keep the house from catching on fire (she was a neat freak) she quickly smothered the fire with the wet hankerchiff and than shot herself, she also put the hankerchiff on teh other side of her head in an attempt to catch the blood and brain/skull fragments (she wasnt very smart)

was I even remotely close?

okay, here's my guess:

She was the accomplice in a robbery.  Later, a long while later, she was sitting in her house when she got a letter that her lover (and accomplice) had died.  After crying into the hanky, she decided that she needed to destroy the evidence.  When she opened the drawer to take out the money, she saw the gun there and depression took over.  The rest is stated in the puzzle's questioning opening.

As that one goes un-answered, here's one:

Each day, a man rides the elevator down to the bottom floor and leaves for work. When he comes home from work he rides the evevator half way up and then takes the stairs the rest of the way up...Why?

he's a midget (sp).

same one is in one of my books, just different wording.

here's one:

a man without eyes saw plums on a tree.  He did not take plums and he did not leave plums.  How is this possible?

The man had only one eye. He took only one plum and he left only one plum?

A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender immediatly pulls out a gun and points it at the man. The man says thankyou and walks away. They had never met before, so what was going on?

the man who walked into the bar had hiccups.  The shock of the gun being pulled out and pointed at him cured them.

A man who wanted a drink and hadn't had any alcohol all day walked into a bar and immediately was knocked out.  What happened?
