gmax® is Discreet's free game development level editor based on the world's best selling 3D animation platform, 3ds max™. Game companies can extend the life of a game by creating and distributing gmax "game packs", which allow game players to create, customize, and trade game content online. It has a subset of features from 3ds max 4, including Polygon & Patch Modeling, as well as texturing and character building tools. You cannot render with, or write plug-ins for the free version of gmax.

It seems you cannot render with the free version...
Also by animations they could mean character movement etc etc, not actual movie sequences... For use in games...
But as said i dont know much about it...
As for teaching someone how to model... It's mostly try and learn and then try again to get better results... That's atleast how i do it...
Remember that old conestoga model, it2000 said it looked like a messed up screw :heh:
I'll go look for it....
Edit: I found it
Really deep in the library, As can be seen it isn't pretty...
But things have progressed, dont you think...
http://www.bonetweb.com/Zircon/ancient/conestoga3a.jpghehe, to think i thought someone would like to steal that thing :heh: *sob*
The moral of the story: Things look like crap when you start out but can end up good with a few years of practice...
