Windows 7 File Reading
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:52:14 PM »
While sitting and looking in the folder where i keep outpost2 i found a way to look at the basic techtree... On my computer wich has windows 7, there was a panel to the left of it. I saw this
;Outpost 2: Divided Destiny
;Research :Multiplayer Game
;
;    NOTE:   IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE NOTIFY ALLEN MCPHEETERS OF ANY CHANGES
;    TO THIS FILE
;

BEGIN_TACH  "Astronony" 0271

And the rest goes on and on... i am wondering if i can shorten the tech time through this area with a notepad or some other editor.. if you have windows 7 please try,  the file i looked at was named
flsurvtek

Uh, yeah.  Techtree files are just text files.  You can open 'em with notepad.

Of course, what you want to do is flat-out cheating, which is strongly discouraged.  Note that it may also result in checksum errors, making you unable to play multiplayer, depending on which file(s) you modify.

flsurvtek.txt is only used by my mission 'DangerZone'. Like Sirbomber said, it causes checksum errors in multiplayer if you edit it. And the colony game version won't be affected because version 0.9.2 used multitek.

Good to know you download stuff and have no idea where it came from but trust it anyways.
