September 15. I had published sooner than I had planned when I first started work on it. At the moment, I'm not writing anything because it might not be valid news 2+ weeks from now. Maybe I could do weekly.

That sorta depends on the amount of info there is.

Well, there may be a major development, invalidating what I had typed previously. In short, it may turn out to be a waste of time.

I like the idea of the multiplayer server.  The only problem is, most of the "old players" gave up looking to play a long time ago.  It took me months to find an active OP2 site, after I realized WON was taken down.

lol. we have contacts from alot of sites, its been about 1 or 2 years now I cant remember lol, but I think if we could find their icq or aim or msn or whatever, we could tell them that it still exists

if that dosnt work, we can just hope that one day the do a google search for op2 and find that the won replacement exists

Multiplayer Server Update, 8:30 AM EDT, August 27 2003:

Martyn and I are *really* close to being done with this.

We just need to work out a few things that are unfinished, like finishing the implementation of the new game, some safe guards to keep people from doing things they shouldn't, and finish writing the DLL that provides the integration from OP2 to the multiplay client.

The multiplayer client will include an extra with it, that being my beta of the op2 mapper. (It works well enough that it can be used to create maps, however large maps don't work properly at this time (the full world map sizes).)

We'll be all set to go once we finish the final testing.

If I have any new information, I'll post it here.

We'll probably have one or two new sites as a result of the public release of the beta map editor.

Forgot to ask, will it be compatible with Firewalls w/ routers?  I remember I couldn't connect to IP games on OP2 when WON was down because the router's firewall didn't work w/ it.

As long as the proper UDP ports are open, I don't see a problem.

even with a firewall, cant you disable spesific things so that the game will run?

Okay. It will NOT run over a network, (thats how it always was) unless the router is set-up to send the packets to one and ONLY ONE computer on the network.

These are the ports you need to open for use of OP2 and the network system:

15101 and 15102 - network communication
47776 thru 47807 - OP2 communication (if you are to play multiplayer games)

If you plan to use the multiplayer system for chat only, you don't need to add for the OP2 ports, only the network ports.

important: * All ports are UDP (user datagram protocol) ports!!! *

Or, if your firewall allows "disable by program", just set it to allow Outpost2.exe and Client.exe (the network program)
The above right here (by program) may not work, as my friend tried it and it doesn't work.

If all fails you may need to completely shut off your firewall for the OP2 session.

I have 20/10 vision. Me very happy. Nobody's around for a multiplayer game anymore.

phil, that meens you see things 10 feet away that you should see 20 feet away:

where you should see it/where you do see it.

20/20 is normal

15/20 is pretty good eyesight

5/20 is amazing eyesight

you really have 20/10 vision?

They told me I have somewhere around 20/25 in my right eye and 20/30 or 20/35 in my left eye.

I also found out that when you look at those letters (the ones that you have to read to tell them if you can see them) if you can read the number on the far right, say its X, if thats the smallest line you can read, then your vision is 20/X.

CK9, I actually had this argument once and won. For example, I recall when my sister had 20/60 vision. She had to get glasses. In World War II, before radar, pilots had to spot enemy aircraft before the enemy spotted them. There were some pilots with 20/1 vision.

The eye dr. told me that if you have vision worse than 20/40 here in Michigan, you can't pass the driver's test, therefore you can't drive.

I seem to be the lucky one in my family. From my 9 years old brother to my 40-something mom (I'm forbidden to say exact age online), they all wear glasses, or contacts. That is one reason why I'm asked sometimes if I wear contacts.

I wear glasses, but people think I look better without them..

Anyway, this is getting off topic.

(Back to topic)

So Phil when is the next update?
