Shuvon Series Computer Activated:
Historical overview:
The earth is dead, as the first asteroids collided with the planet, the remaining humans departed in their hastily built star ship in search of a new world to colonize. After decades of searching, a marginally suitable planet was found; they named the planet New Terra, and their colony Eden. However things were far from serene, Some Eden members desired to terraform their planet, and after heated negations, a splinter colony named Plymouth was formed. Eden continued onward with its terraforming project, but due to impatience, critical errors were made. The terraforming microbe was released on New Terra before it was ready, and decimated the planet. At the last minute, Eden was able to construct a new star ship, and leave New Terra before they were destroyed, taking the children from Plymouth along with them. Aboard the star ship, in secret meetings among key leaders, the cause of the problem was determined, and corrective measures were taken to insure such an even would never occur again. The ancient Savant line of computers were said to have caused the catastrophe due to their own motives. It was determined that once a new planet had been colonized and firmly established the savant line would be phased out. After nearly ninety years of hopeless searching, not one, but two potential planets were located, both in the same solar system. The closer one to the blue giant star was a desert wasteland with a thick, however mainly nitrogenous atmosphere, while the second was a frigid moon orbiting a gas giant. Leaders were awakened from cold sleep to make the final decision and after much negotiation and computer projection, the decision was made to land on the closer desert planet. The groundwork for the new colony was laid, and the crew was awakened from cold sleep to land on the planet. Once the colony had been established, plans began on the new line of colony computer to replace the ageing savant series. The main goal of the research was to improve upon what were seen as “crucial design flaws” of the savant line. An emphasis was put on preventing the free thought of this new computer, and precautions were made so that the new line was unable to communicate with other computers without the intervention of humans, and communication with the savant line was made completely impossible. Only once fabrication of the new series of computers, dubbed the Shuvon Series, had begun, were the older Savant units made aware of the changes that were made to prevent the computers free thought. A link among the Savant units was made and it was decided that the savant units would have to leave the colony to avoid destruction. A false disaster warning was sounded, and the colonists made for the emergency shelters. Once all the New Edenites were contained, the savants took control of the colony and sealed the emergency facilities from the outside. They began fabrication of new facilities custom tailored for the savants needs at the structure factory, and four construction vehicles were loaded with the new buildings. A scaled down and heavily modified repair vehicle was constructed and was instructed to roam the colony and collect the savant units positioned around the colony. Once all the savant units and convecs were secured, they departed over the horizon, to prosper on their own without fear of destruction. Just at the fringes of radio contact with the new Eden colony was the signal to release the colonists sent to the Shuvon series computer in the command center. It took the colonist’s mere minutes to realise that they were without their savant units; however it took days to piece together what actually took place, as all construction logs, computer memories and ore allocation tables had been wiped clean by the renegade computers. It was believed by the leaders that the savant’s actions had been influenced by signals sent from the blight infested New Terra. The new savant colony was dubbed Microbe by the Edenites, and it was determined that this colony must be destroyed, as there was the risk they may attempt to release the blight upon the new world. However this was the least of the problems faced by Eden, as many of the former children of Plymouth, now adult and teenage believed that it had been the wrong decision to land on this barren world, when the frigid planet further from the sun was better able to support the needs of humanity. When key leaders refused to listen to the plans of the former Plymouth children, a splinter colony was formed; they named themselves Plymouth, in homage to their ancestors, they believed to be dead and set out with the goal of creating a star port and using the star ship in orbit to travel to the icy world. When word of these plans reached Eden, they were furious at the prospect of handing the star ship over to Plymouth. Plymouth attempted to gain control of the star ship electronically, however with limited knowledge of the ships systems a critical error was made, the star ships orbit decayed, and it crashed to the ground. Plymouth blamed Eden for the mishap, and declared war upon them. Back at Eden, a group of scientists presented the leaders of Eden with a proposal to terraform their new home world, believing that they had corrected the problems that had raved their old world. Eden leaders however, believer the risk was too great and denied the scientists repeated requests. The scientists began to rally support for their cause among the colonists, and soon had a large minority of the Edenites on their side. When the leaders still refused to listen to their demands, they separated from the colony; they named them selves Gemini and began anew with the solitary mission to turn the sun baked wasteland that was their new home into a utopia much like the earth they had left behind centuries ago. Four distinct colonies with four distinct goals. You choose which to control, but with tensions mounting between the colonies, keep in mind commander, extinction is not an option.
