OP2 Mapper
« on: May 13, 2003, 07:15:00 PM »
I am designing a new OP2 map editor for Windoze. Hopefully it will be faster than it's predecessors, and it will have some support for saving info on structure placement (but not into the OP2 native format, yet. Probably onto a FMF (Flexible map Format) file that the editor will be able to read, however)

Part of the .map editor is complete. The tileset loads fast (under 2 seconds loading time for the whole app) and doesn't use lots of memory.

Have you tested it on more than one computer.

Not yet. It's not quite complete, yet....

And I am having problems with the tile selector, and scrolling. (argh!)

ITS DONE!!!!! THE MAP/TILE EDITOR WORKS!

At 9:34:42 AM Eastern Daylight Time, the FIRST EVER made from scratch Outpost 2 map, made with a standalone EXE map editor, was successfully tested in the Outpost 2 Game!!!!!!!

Yippie!

There are a few more bugs that I have to work out, and I have to make the tileset to include all the tiles, which I'll get done today, so tonight the map editor will be released (to certain allowed people). Those people will get PM's that tell them where to download it.

Just keep checking your e-mail box. If you don't get anything in like, 120 hours, then you won't get one for a while.

Everyone who is helping First Wave gets one. So if you want to get it, contribute to the First Wave project somehow.

(The reason for this since most of the code is proprietary, and it's a bit buggy. I don't want to give it to people who know nothing about it, that it could have bugs, and come crying to me saying "It lost my map!")

EDIT: Also, if you want to contribute in some form of maps for First Wave, PM me and I will see what we can do.

In postform or in PM? Don't just post, "I have an idea." If you post that, you should edit to give a description of your idea.

Not until the expansion pack is released. By then, as op2hacker has said, bugs will be worked out.

Phil is correct. The Mapper WILL be available to everyone once the expansion is done. But for now, it is limited to the people making the expansion.

If you want a copy before the expansion is out, PM me or Phil to help out with the expansion. We will set you up.

(The reason I'm not giving it to everyone is because the people doing the expansion will know that it has bugs, and may crash sometimes, and you will lose your work.
I don't want people coming up to me going "You made a stupid editor, it doesn't work, I lost over 2 hrs of work")

There are probably a lot of bugs that I don't know exist.

EDIT: I did get CK9's idea. He could do some "bonus" content for the expansion. He is in the line for the editor.

Auto save wouldn't be a bad option. I once wrote three chapters of one of my novellas, without saving, then the power went out. (Sniff, sniff) I didn't write anything until a week afterwards.

CK9, can you quote where I said, "It is not great to be a normal member." Normal members are very welcome here.

An accurate estimate or a fuzzy one cannot be given by I. Ask op2hacker.
