Over the past week we've added a couple new things to the Outpost 2 IRC experience.
The first major thing is a new op in #Outpost2. The "op's" nick is OPU|Bot and this bot helps with the managing of our channel. Some of the things it does are:
- Flood/spam control
- !seen support (you may have seen this at other channels)
- IRC games (more on this later)
- Other extra stuff to help the ops run the channel.
However it does have a few features that you can use in it. First of all, you can /MSG the bot with a few commands. The commands that it currently supports for all users are:
SEEN <nick> - tells you the last time it has seen <nick> on the channel.
HELLO - Create a user account on the bot (currently, all a user account means to a normal-level user is you can add extra info about yourself to the bot, like url, names, age, bday, etc. It will have more features in the future).
HELP - once registered to the bot, type this command to find out what you can do on the bot.
We are still fine tuning the bot. The flood control settings aren't perfect yet. If you believe the bot did something that you consider unreasonable to you (eg. kicked you after pasting X lines of text within X number of seconds, and that doesn't seem right), please tell an operator. Tell us also if you find problems with the bot.
The second thing we've added is a new channel. This channel is called #Outpost2.Lobby and is for anything not directly Outpost 2 related.
In this channel you can play irc games. Currently the only one we have is the card game Uno.
To start it, join #Outpost2.Lobby and type !uno to start the uno engine.
Type !unocmds to get a list of the game's commands.
When done playing, please type !stop to stop the game engine. (If we find that people are leaving the game running when they're done with it, we may have to disallow people from playing the game or remove the game completely).
If you would like to apply for ops in the Lobby, /msg a regular operator of #Outpost2 (one that is listed on
www.outpostuniverse.net irc page). We are much more likely to give out ops in the Lobby than we will in the main chat room. (However we must know you - you must either visit irc regularly, or be a member of the forums here for a long enough time).
If you have any suggestions of what you would like to see added to the bot (ie. more games, etc) feel free to tell us either in this thread or on IRC.
