Weird Op2 Bug
« on: August 23, 2010, 09:46:39 PM »
I recently decided to pick OP2 back up, and downloaded the most recent game from the site, and I launched the executable and nothing happened...after some investigation I found it is in the process list. After intense investigation, with the help of _A_ on irc, I found out it takes about 11 minutes for OP2 to open to the main screen, for that 11 minutes there is no evidence of anything going on, I don't see it in the task manager except for in the processes tab, I don't see it on the task bar, I don't see anything of it at all :(...any ideas? I've already tried the basic things like changing compatibility like a post around here said, and various other things. Any ideas from anyone?

I've never experienced this before.

What version of Windows are you using? I've run Outpost 2 without any problems and without any sort of compatability mode up to WinXP. I don't have anything past that.

Maybe some other software is interfering with it? I guess check for other activity, possibly a virus scanner, although, for an 11 minute delay? Are you perhaps running a new OS on an ancient computer?

OP2 runs fine up to Vista for me...

try running a malware scan on your computer real quick.  In the past, I've gotten slow downs as a side effect of spyware that managed to sneak on.

I am running Windows 7. My specs are Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.20 ghz, 6 gigs ddr3 ram, and two nvidia geforce 8600's.....not the greatest but not exactly ancient either. Going to try reinstalling windows today, see if that helps at all

Considering I used to play on a 120MHz machine, I'd say that's adequate.

My guess is, either something with Windows 7 that I don't know about (which I kind of doubt), or some other software conflict such as malware, or a badly behaved virus scanner, or maybe just something accidentally locking up your computer. Is the freeze localized to the game, or the whole machine?

It was localized to just the game, also did a fresh install of windows and it seems to be working now...
