Bots in multiplayer
« on: December 02, 2003, 09:00:48 PM »
Ok...I remember way back when I used to play with my friend online against computer controlled opponents, but now I can't remember how to set up a game that way. Can any of you point me in the right direction?

Is there a way to create a new mp map with the computer colony? Or to add one to another map?

Not yet. Sorry. (I've done a little work on that front though but haven't had any time to do anything much)

I just had an idea, the computer coloney is limited to very strict boundries, I dont even see vecs moving outside them unless their being attacked

would it be possible to "cut" the portion of the map that has the computer coloney out, and "pase" it somwhere else?

it would be a new map, but for all the computer knows, its La Corrida, that way we could have customized maps with computer coloneys at any part of it, mabe even more than 1, but the computer coloney would be the exact same as the La Coridda one

that might be a way to put computerized players in a costom map before we know how to build custom AI for new computer oponets

just an idea

You could do it, but it wouldn't be the most fun thing to do by hand (you have to go through where it creates all the units and change the coordinates)

Also, the number of computer colonies has a maximum....

You can only have a maximum of 7 players (the normal 6 colors (human or computer), plus black, which can only be created in the DLL file... so it's only good for computer players)

hmm, interesting.

I think the black color looks really weird in OP2..
(None of you have seen it yet, but just wait)

In the black color, where the color on the units normally goes, there is just black.. one shade of it. (Sort of like the "black units" in starcraft)

thats pretty cool, later on when we can change the AI we can make that one the most aggressive coloney

achelly we probly could, just take the coloney from a coloney game on hard, expecially ply starship 2, so that it searches for other coloneys, and attacks them

Can it be possible to use a map editor to work around the computer?

thats what I was thinking of, keep the area where the computer works the same, but you can change the other parts of the map, with the games, the computer gives you time to build up normally, and with the accelaration of the multy, you should be able to have a defence with plenty of time to counter the first attack

i think it may be posible, if ur talking about the bots in the multi already, but if ur talking about bots from the single, i think u will have to wait untill someone reaslese a .dll editor. (i think hacker or patriot is working on one)

that troo, but I think he means copying the computer coloney and pasteing it on the custom map

btw, even with hackers new map maker, I still dont see how you can place mining tiles, and if you cant do that, your pretty much screwd
