Building Glitch
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:19:08 PM »
I'm not sure if you know about this glitch already, but i figured out a way to duplicate buildings

i was making an agridome in the Plymouth campaign but decided last minute i didnt like the spot, so i moved the convec away.  It was right when it started making the agridome, so it started building without a convec.  The convec still had the agridome in it so i had it build next to the self constructing agridome, givign me two for the price of one.

perhaps i ninja'd the trigger starting the construction and the one freezing/making the convec invincible

Known glitch.

It makes little impact on the game though, since trying to reproduce it is usually a waste of time. Just be glad it saved you a building when it did ;)

I've been aware of this for a long while, although I'd mostly forgotten about it.

Never have looked into fixing this one. I suppose that might be an idea.

I say why bother?  It's very unlikely that it will give an unfair advantage in a game, as it would require you waste time on a single convec

You don't have to waste a lot of time. You just have to spend the right moment trying it.

You mean unbuildable passable tile? Yes, it happens when your Earthworker gets blown whilst building something. That's a bug worth fixing.

In multiplayer it can cause some trouble lol... i think a fast solution would be invert things, Destroy the kit in the convec and then start the construction .-. (Ill see if my debugging skills are good... ill try making this fix *-*)

If you destroy the kit first, how would you know what to build?

Teach them programming. It isn't quite like magic.

I would think it would be easier to make it so the convec is not interactable a little sooner...and with the earthworker, don't let it change the tyle type until the wall is there...

The unbuildable passable area is something else, actually. It's a 3x3 square centered on the tile where the wall's being built that nothing can be built on until it's removed by the game (after wall construction successfully completes). It's a pretty dumb mechanic as it needlessly makes building large areas of walls annoying (even more so if an earthworker gets destroyed or EMP'ed) and should be removed altogether.

Personally, I'd vote to disable its use when it hits the square.

be careful if you take it completely out, im not sure what would happen if you moved a unit where the wall was being built and then the wall tried to appear

You already have that... The wall doesn't appear and you waste 75 common metals.

How many more problems already covered will you find for us?
