I don't know who gives these hotels the stars they have, but i do know it has more stars when it has a higher quality of the service.
Our bathroom had a big tub, a shower, all in marble. The room was kinda big compared to other hotels i have been in before. We only stayed for 2 nights. The hotel has 7 types of rooms, and we stayed in the 2nd type (deluxe room); normal price: some $175 a night (6600 THB), breakfast wasn't included. We went out most of the day, and only had some roomservice at night.
Since i became a Diamond outside travel agent a couple months ago, i got the room for only $55 a night, which is even cheaper than you'd pay for a 3 star hotel in Europe
Plus we enjoyed special treatment from the hotel guest relations department, and the assistent manager gave us a complete tour of the hotel; pictures later!
Suffice to say; it was an enjoyable experience, and it's sure worth staying at a 5-star again some time soon (i am a member already of Marriot & Hilton groups)
