Let Us Speak About Sex!
« on: January 25, 2006, 02:22:20 PM »
when I come in the forum, or the IRC, I say "hello boys" or 'hello guys" B)

Never "hello girls"

I know a lot of boys in this forum, and none girls  <_<

I asked me what is the sex-ratio of the forum, if the girls like outpost 2

Well it's true, the main reason guys use AIM and MSNIM is because all the women are on all the time. When I'm talking with a bunch of guy friends, it's either in a private IRC channel, or some other web protocool that most women just don't understand.

Nothing sexist or anything, It's just that they don't take the time to learn about the technicalities like we do- I guess it's like implanted in a male mind- technology, cars, women, food. Stay focused.

Heh. I do remember a couple females on this board in the past, but again, they didn't last long. I think Garett's girlfriend used to frequent here, but that was very long ago, when HE was still active, let alone her- who might not be a part of his life anymore.

I digress.

Chris.

Falcon was one of the best players, but she was also very modest.  Anyone been in contact with her recently?

women are social creatures and from what ive experienced and heard in studies; women are better at reading people in person and getting to the facts while men are better at seeing thru bulk and reading the details. to guys, the net is sorta like going to a pub or a welding shop, a lunchroom at breaktime or a garage full of other guys who think like you. girls tend to go for online things that feed their social hunger while men enjoy the merging of their technical curiosity with the limited social desires we have. guys can satisfy their social needs just by typing to someone else while girls need a bit more than that. so thats my view tempered with some psychology ive studied.

one area of psych that im really intrigued in is "shop talk." men get GREAT satisfaction by talking with other men in their general fields of expertise and often derive emotions from the same parts of the brain that express belonging and family ties while women require stronger emotional-physical attachments to feel similar. guys are much easier to please than women but thats also what makes us so competitive and cooperative as compared to women. i read about one study showing that when put in a situation with peers, women are less likely than men to cooperatively solve a problem. while men are more likely to argue, women are more likely to work on their own or choose one person in a group to make major choices. the results are similar when grouped with either sex. in other words, men see another guy in a similar line of work automatically as a team mate and an opponent; what can he learn from him? how can he improve upon it? women are more direct and see a group of peers as opponents unless they are given a specific reason to think otherwise, especially if there is an emotional bond. men form this bond quicker and with less effort.

it may be as simple as women dont see the collaborative networking that happens online as worthwhile unless it is directly tied to their real-life emotional bonds. men also seek to increase their circle of power and dont seem to mind where this takes place, even online. women  most likely dont see the point. all these decisions and thoughts take place subconciously and may not apply to all cases. of course, personality is a factor and some people may be less or more willing to listen to their subconcious and react to them. i know many women who treat the internet just like any guy would and men who see no point in the internet.

what it comes down to for both sexes is what you want to get out of it and how you look at it. is the internet/chat a means to an end or is it a way to unwind and just talk? also keep in mind that alot of the internet revoles around subjects that are male dominated and generally unfriendly to women: gaming, technology and porn. how many women do you know like to hang out at lan parties? how many of those work in a technical field? how many of those are chronic porn viewers? now ask yourself the same about men and the results should be very lop-sided ;)

.... but whatever. i went off on a tangent there and its time for bed :P

hehe

good read :)

yes there just are not many girl gamers and girls online, but saying that i think i herd a study in the US that there are now more females online and men?

as for lan partys there are companys in the US and UK who are sponsering girls to be girl clans (fragdolls etc) to try and make gaming more apealing to females, to hopefully get more females into gameing and to get their money. a female clan won at quakecon last year

the bigest lan in the uk, the i-series now has a lot of women there compared to a few years ago but still mostly men. i went to a lan last summer and i'd say it was 50 male, 15 female. but as these are social lan's the women are mainly there for the socal side of it and not for laning or gaming so its not realy accurate.

anyone see that special on mtv2 about these 3 people trying to become professional gamers? if they were trying to convince people to try it themselves, id say anyone with 1/6th of a brain would say "f*** no!" hinging your life and welfare on super smash bros is insane. do it for fun, not to survive.

anyway, all the women on that show were either "ring girls", hangers-on to the champs or some guys gf. i was actually suprised any male on the show had a gf. even i thought it was pathetic. lol
