PyOutpost, A Python Port of Outpost 1
« on: June 09, 2021, 09:38:02 PM »
I have been working on a Python port of Outpost 1.

* Non-Commercial Passion Project
* Uses original game assets
* Attempting to produce a accurate functional and visual clone of the original(1.5)
* Works on all platforms supporting Python and PyGame
* The current version is playable only in the loosest sense, it is a development preview
* Feel free to do what you want with the code
* I want to release the Alpha in mid August

Here is the link: PyOutpost

Background::
I spent the last four years developing web apps and automation using Python, further back, I bought the original game when it came out, loved it, even though it didn't work. Fast-forward, September 2020 due an accident at a saw mill my foot was broken, and I had to stay off it for 6ish weeks. Finally the basic skills, available time, and can-do attitude aligned. From October to now I have been working on this port. It is not finished, but it has come a long way.

Future::
What I want.
* To nearly perfectly clone the original
Then
* To Add All promised features that don't require some kind of game breaking NP problem space
* To make modding very easy and accessible
* To add UI enhancements to make life easier, like change elevation buttons
* To have mods and modes switchable from in game preferences
Pies in the Skys
* Add multiplayer using a light weight flask server and JSON game data
* Add "Hard Science Sins" game mechanic, basically when the real science says no, you can use a wish, but you only get three

This is pre-alpha, and I have ambitious plans, Minerva bless this venture.

Looking forward to seeing this develop further.

I'd thought about making OPHD a clone of Outpost but opted to just make a better game. I'd really like to see an actual working clone of the original game though, could be interesting. :D

Ahhh.

I've not been on the Discord in a while, so that explains that.
