Video Decompressor Missing?
« on: October 17, 2011, 01:48:45 PM »
Im thinking of beating the campaign for the first time ever, but i have found that my video decompressor isnt working for outpost 2?

This seems like a windows 7 problem more than anything else.
Pumping out awsome.

If you are talking about the original videos, you need the Indeo codec. Download it here: http://outpost2.net/dlmisc.php

If you have that, I can't help you.

Does Outpost 2 play the videos? If not, did you try compatibility to old windows versions? Works for me.

Interesting. I'll have to remember that if I ever decide to go Win7. With Windows 8 on the way its going to be a whole new slew of compatibility issues with their 'Metro' platform.

As much as I would have liked that to be a joke, the programming platform is actually called the 'Metro' platform. I tolerate the headache known as windoze 7 only because I have to use it at work, else I stick to XP, and I probably always will.

Windoze 7:

Me: -Clicks my computer-

Computer: -Screen goes totally black for 18 seconds, then a dialouge box opens up- "You are about to open the my computer window. Are you sure you want to open the icon you just clicked?"

Me: -Clicks 'Yes'-

Computer: -Screen returns to normal for a half second, then blacks out for another 18 seconds, returning with another box- "Opening this icon requires administrative privelages, would you like to open this icon as an administrator?"

Me: -Clicks 'Confirm'

Computer: -Flickers again and goes for another 18 seconds of black then comes back with a third dialouge box-

Me: -Can't read the box anymore because I'm busy kicking the computer repeatedly-

Ugh.... Yeah I don't have rage issues with Microsoft's latest or anything...

control panel -> User Accounts -> turn UAC on or off -> unclick box -> okay -> restart

then

control panel -> security settings -> change how windows notifies me -> don't alert me

That setting only removes /some/ of the 'Helpful' notifications. Sadly there is no way to kill them all.
