Voices In Your Own Language

I don't know if this message has been replied or if DrThrax is still around, but I give the informations so someone else can use them, as I found his question without answer while lurking through the old messages.

I play the current OPU distributions, but with the french voice, which I find much more appealing and realistic, keeping the very AI style from OP1 game (almost the same voice for both french versions of OP).

I also replace the files describing the mission objectives in the common tutorials and campains, as well as the entire original OP2 story.

All you need is take these files from your mother tongue CD and put them in your OPU directory :
voices.vol
story.vol

The French (or German) is now fully integrated in your game. The UI and the buttons are still in english, but since OP2 is mostly HotKey gameplay, it's not that a big deal.

Because this is the version 1.01 and they are some bug fixed in 1.34

Would you mind uploading those two files?The second time I played OP2, I was using the French version.
The Savant's voice in French sounds cool. Better? I don' t know.

Better is a subjective concept. I am french speaking and I am a Outpost 1 nostalic. I played Op1 when I was a kid and played days and days without stopping... in company of the crystal clear french voice of the computer.

The file is 5.8 megs. what do you propose so everyone can benefit from them ? Maybe make them available in the download section ?

Those two files alone are 60% of my translation ^_^

You can perform a more accurate translation by modifying language.ini, adding sheets.vol , sounds.vol (well, just for the spaceport noise xD) the videos, the manual, the eden/ply campaigns, all taken from the original CD. I had also to do a slight hacking to the outpost2.exe file (i had to change the %ss that identified a vehicle in the vehicle list, and a few other messages not included in language.ini).

STILL, if you are going multiplayer, i'd keep a pure english installation.

I had problems with multiplayer when I changed the sheets.vol.

But at least changing the voice gives a good enough translation. I could still take all the .vol files in french and put them in rar or zip archive.

The sheets.vol issue can be fixed if we have copies of them.

I'm not too sure about the upload. Would it fit the attachment size in the upload forum? I think it might be a bit low for what you want to upload. If it is, Hacker could probably set something up for you, or speak to someone on IRC. Maybe just DCC the stuff and whoevercan put it up for you.

I think the upload limit is 25 or 50 MB if I remember correctly so I don't imagine there should be much of a problem.

But again, if you have problems uploading, let me know and I can try to do something else for you.
