Laser Lynx Mesh
« on: June 04, 2006, 08:42:22 PM »
Hello everyone!

I've just created a revised version of the laser lynx (I'm trying to get it looking right and having the polygon count as LOW as possible)
A top view of the laser lynx.

A closer view of the top.

A perspective view.

A lower perspective view showing the contours of the mesh.

A friendly note: The wheels are kinda blocky looking, I know. This is because I need to keep the polygon count down. Besides, you aren't going to be seeing them much anyway...

Thanks,

thats what skinning is for, once he puts the decals in and the coloring and textureing, Im sure it will look 400% better

The turret could be bigger and more in the middle.
Looks promising though.

I'm not sure texturing is going to fix the flatness. I don't know, it's just something about the wheels and the body of the lynx that seem a bit off. It definetly needs bigger wheels, and the body needs to be a bit taller, and the wheels placed a little lower on it.

I agree, the body needs to be taller.

Also, is the body really rounded or is the gouraud shading just playing tricks on my eyes?

You beat me to it.
I was working on a new Lynx myself...
Well, here you go, maybe I can touch it up a bit and it can be made high-poly or whatever.

Yeah, that's supposed to be a Rail Gun. It was my first thing, so it doesn't look so great. But I still like it.

I noticed that stormy put plenty of detail in his model.  I am guessing that he used subdivision, but isn't that against the goal of faster framerates?

Nope, I didn't use any subdivision. I modeled that model all by hand, placing and moving vertices.

Sirbomber, I already have a high polygon model made... Sorry

I'm sorry, but I am starting to imagine a high polygon lynx army.  You know, when a player is going to rush by sending an army of lynxes to an enemy base so early in the game.  Wouldn't that impact the framerates?

Movies only Iso.
And it's okay Stormy. It only took about 30 minutes.

they are as thick as the chassis is  thick...... that's really the biggest they need to be...
I'll post a side view later.

well... the chassis doesn't really remind me much of a lynx either. It's the wrong shape, and should be twice the height of the wheels.

I think Sirbomber's design is the closest, but it's not quite right either.

Try looking at the MEUL.avi and MPUL.avi, you can get a pretty good picture of what a lynx is suppose to look like from that.

Here's a piece of artwork Sierra/Dynamix released long ago, before the game was even out, of a lynx battle:

That would be what it should look like (after all, it IS what they designed)

I might have another picture of a lynx that they made as well.

that artwork is from one of the avi's I mentioned. Altho they seem to have combined 2 different frames, so there are 2 lynxes :D
