Well, it's now time to make the official announcement - we have successfully switched servers.

We are now hosted at Dreamhost (www.dreamhost.com) thanks to Galactic77 offering use of his Dreamhost account. We have moved off of Punboy's servers totally.

We have made the move because it should be a lot more 'peaceful' here so to speak. As many of you can attest, Punboy has pushed us around, especially in recent days. Being hosted on his server, there was nothing we could do but submit to him otherwise we would run the risk of losing our hosting. Also we've had to put up with many foolish things, such as Punboy editing the forum database to give himself adminstrative rights (rather than just coming to us first, we would have given him admin rights if he had asked). And the list goes on... (ask an admin if you're really interested in the full story)

However, this is no longer an issue. The only issue that I have to address right now is the user hosting. Most people's accounts will not be working, as we have to setup everyone again since we're on a new server. If you want to continue being hosted by us, drop a PM to Joe or myself and we will set up your account as soon as we can.

Other than that, the server change should not affect the user experience in any way (well, maybe positively. the DNS problems should no longer occur, and it is important to remove your HOSTS file fixes if you haven't done so).

As soon as you get into contact with me or zigzagjoe, we will create your account.

We'll need the password you would like to use to log into your account.

Again, I want to make myself absolutely clear about this: If you want your hosting to be resumed, you MUST PM me or Joe. We are NOT 'automatically' restoring anyone's account, you need to tell us that you want to continue being hosted by us.

In response to CK9's question: By default the url for your website is http://users.opu.org.uk/username, or http://users.outpostuniverse.net/username, but we can setup a redirector so http://ck9.outpostuniverse.net/ would work. Again, get in contact with one of us to get your account set up.

Yeah, top level domains that we hosted before are still at Punboy's server, just the subdomains of outpostuniverse.net aren't there anymore (as the domain outpostuniverse.net is pointed at Dreamhost's servers).

If you want to move your domain over to here, we could still arrange that. Just drop me a PM.

when ZZJ mass-PMed everyone hosted, asking if they wanted to continue hosting after the servver change.  Do I have to PM one of you AGAIN with my response?

If you want a subdomain to point to your space (yourname.outpostuniverse.net), PM me and I'll set it up when I get back home on Sunday.
Otherwise you can only use users.outpostuniverse.net/yourname.
