ive got the doom network admin program. EVERYONE should check that out. a level is generated as a hall with rooms on either side. each room represents a cpu on a server and monsters in the room represent individual processes. the amount of ram or cpu the processes take up changes the type/strength of the monster. to kill the process, you kill the monster. its really wicked, and i would try it except that i only ever get one room when i use it :P
Are you for real? That's gotta be hot.

But it'd take too much work to kill more involved processes- or something like an Apache server- that's some decent ram usage- not rly CPU heavy though..

W/e.

I never played Doom, but I've got Doom 1.. just sitting here.

Chris

I have
Doom,
Doom 2 (hell on earth)
Doom 3 (ultimate doom)
Doom 4 (final doom)

Um... Ultimate doom was Ultimate Doom. DooM 3 is DooM 3.

Final doom was also Final DooM.... not 4 (that has yet to be done)

i built my new comp just so i can own doom 3 and run it at its full potential , i buy tons of games but never have the time to finish all of them , i like to see where next generation games will take us in the future . i still want an outpost game that  is ground breaking and way before it shoudl be made , op2 was honestly my most obsesive game that got me into computer games , i stil think even today that i think i played one week straight of op2 with good friend raffie durring jr high school break.

You just need the .wad files to play the different versions of Doom. (The ones that use the Doom 1/2 engines). If you don't like Doom95, then download Doom Legacy. It's a free, open source project forked from the original Doom 2 source code (which ID has released and you can download from them). If you want to play any of the episodes, you just need the right .wad file. Load it up and play.

I should mention though, only the source for the Doom 2 executable was released to the public. The .wad files are a different matter and you could be sued by ID for distributing them. Hence why you won't find any .wad files packaged with Doom Legacy, or any of the other similar projects out there. (At least no .wad files containing content created by ID).

The idea seems to be that you can take the .wad files from a full version of the games (that you legally own) and play them all from the same (upgraded) engine. It works great under any version of Windows I've ever tried to run it under. Plus it has some nifty features that can be real fun to play around with.  :)

I've seen Legacy a few times, they do some awesome work.  But what about the mouse compatability?  All USB mice are non-functioning in Doom 95
