Hello There.
« on: June 03, 2005, 12:59:53 AM »
Hi all this is Drako. I have not been a part at all of the groups of people that have maintained the op2 community on forums, or on irc. I dropped out of op2 once won/sierra or whoever shut down the servers. Also that was about the time the cheats were let out of the bag, and everyone knew about them ugg. Actually funny thing is i never believed the cheats existed up until that day, but anyways thats a hole other story. i played op2 for several years on won.net. I first joined onto the already falling appart, jediĀ£ clan. Only guy i remember from that clan was called Master Linx. Anyhow after the collapse of the jedi clan, i created my own clan, the Black Dragons. We had a huge presence on op2 for a long time. But it started to fizzle out just as the server disconnected, so right on time i could say.

I was very good at the game back in the day, and i hope i will find the courage to come back into the game and regain my lost skills and give some of you a run for your money, or just have a good/fun time :). Well i hope there are some old guys here that remember me. If not well thats what happens when a game dies and is resurrected. Anyhow im here, and hopefully i can make a big comeback if this game is truely comming back on IRC. Ill join the channel asa i get around to it.

-Drako out

looks Like ZuesBD was telling the truth :heh:  hi, and welcome to the forum.  By any chance is your clan page still active?  I have a list of all the old OP2 Clans that I am trying to maintain/work on (have to update it soon to take into account some sites that just recently went dead)

You've talked to zues??? He use to be a good friend in RL, but then he joined the army and went to germany over 3 years ago.... Can't wait to see his face again, but anyways. What was he telling the truth about? That i couldnt resist to come back to op2? I was hoping i would come back and see that people found a way to remove the cheats from the game, because its impossible for you to know if your opponent is cheating or not, especially when your playing really good players. Thats another story in itself, but its kewl to see a welcoming party. I look forward to starting up some games. Should i go to the download page and get everything for op2? Id hate to start a game and find out im missing a new 'fav' map. I still got the old pie ;).

When I was first stating the clan list, he was telling me about the Black Dragon clan, but I was reluctant to believe it because 1) I had never heard of it (that reason became irrelevant later as I learned of many of the early ones that died) 2) I could not find a URL and he didn't remember it.

He's an okay forumite...when he's on...and when he doesn't seem to have eaten a lot of sugar...you should download the OP2 files, hacker and levi have been 'playing' with the code and have removed the cheats completely

Its a shame Zeus aint around on the froums anymore, its been too long. Anyway, i think its Hooman who you have to thank for finding and removeing the cheats :)

For OP2 download goto the OP2 download page and get op2dl_small_full.exe or op2dl_complete.exe if you want single play also. For IRC get mIRC 6.16 with NoName Script 3.81 (OPUNNSIRC.zip).

Cya soon!

Yes, we found a way to remove the cheats a while back. They've been removed for probably the last two updates now. If you're playing with the copy downloaded from this site, you shouldn't have to worry about them.

And welcome. Always nice to see more people on.

now a question arises, that could probably go into another forum. If they are removed in these versions, could i install from my CD, and patch up to what everyone has and still have access to said cheats, and still join a game? I mean granted there are still some 'tricks' that can be used but they are things that you can notice easily LOL. But ya not sure what to tell ya about zues, i know he planned to get a divorce cause things weren't goin to good with his wife, but i dont know much more then that. I still have a few emails for him, i can try to shoot him one and see if he is still alive :).

If you use the exe we posted, then cheats will be disabled. You can use the original exe if you want to play against someone with cheats enabled. You are of course free to install any news maps with the old exe if you want to play them that way, but you have to make sure all players have the same versions of every file, or you'll likely run into problems. They can range from game version errors when trying to join games, checksum errors when starting games, or out of sync errors when playing. (Or possibly just plain crashing if you get things just right).

Anyways, the first error will prevent you from playing with the original exe against people with the downloaded one. So there isn't a way to just get around the patch by using a different exe. (Even if you patched it yourself to try and get around it, the last errors will still get you).

Ok well that sounds good to me. One of the major things that drove op2 in the ground for me was discovering how all the 'greats' had been using lots of these cheats to make themselves look godly. Anyhow long story short, im going to opt to have the version without cheats, i just hope non of those bad players havent found a way to get away with cheating =\.

There will always be ways to stop them. And don't worry. The removal of those cheats is pretty foolproof. It relies on each client to do the cheat processing. If the code is removed from any one client, then the other ones can only throw the game out of sync by processing the cheats. So there aren't really any fears of someone using a nonpatched exe to get away with it.

Levi ya know i hope your right. It seems like pretty much any game has some individuals that find it fun to cheat, and win. I wish i could understand why people even do those sorts of things. Bah well anyways long story short, we shouldn't have that problem on this game. Unless somewhere behind the scenes this new version has only been reprogrammed so the cheats are some other combination of words, to get them to work. I hate being skeptical, and i wish my Qbasic skills werent dead, so i could get into the code to prove it to myself :(. Its so hard to come back into the mix after you have been burned so hard ><. For the community i will try my hardest :).

If you know assembly, I could prove it to you. We basically removed the call to the function that processes the cheats.
