Community Newsletter, 2018 Q4
« on: November 22, 2018, 11:36:47 AM »
Hey all you Outpost and Outpost 2 lovers out there! It’s been a couple of years since our last community letter and the team though it was time for an update!

Outpost 2 1.3.7
Community member Vagabond has been instrumental in helping to push forward the latest updates to Outpost 2. In addition to backend improvements, many more scenarios were added. See the news post detailing changes.

Added Multiplayer Scenarios
  • Bomber's Big Blast (4P, LoS)
  • Hidden Treasure (4P, LoS)
  • Caught in the Crossfire (4P, SRV)
  • Darkest Hour (4P, SRV)
  • Danger Zone (5P, SRV)
  • Fractured Alliance (5P, SRV)
  • Judgement Day (6P, SRV)
  • Rescue Escort (2P, Convoy)

Added Single Player Scenarios (Colony Games)
  • Outcaster's Starship
  • Rising From the Ashes
  • Ply, Pursued, Ep 1 - Evac Under Fire
  • Ply, Pursued, Ep 2 - On the Run
  • Ply, Pursued, Ep 3 - Rescue Escort

Updates to existing Scenarios
  • Made Pre Release Eden Demo Beatable
  • Updated Forsaken World’s tech tree (4P, SRV)

Development and Source Hosting (Git)
For the longest time we’ve used a self-hosted Subversion (SVN) server for hosting/sharing source code. We’ve since migrated to Git and use GitHub for our repository hosting. The GitHub group page for OPU is a lot easier to navigate than the self-hosted subversion, is easier to follow and just all around works better.

Outpost 2 Modding Tools
Hooman and Vagabond have made a tremendous amount of progress developing new and much more robust tools for working with Outpost 2 and its assets. OP2Utility is a new C++ cross platform library for working on Outpost 2 related tasks such as loading/saving map files, working with archives, and Outpost 2 sprites. The two new applications listed below use OP2Utility as their backend. Head on over to our GitHub page for details!
  • OP2MapImager - Console Application for making high resolution renders of Outpost 2 maps
  • OP2Archive - Console Application for manipulating Outpost 2 archive files (vols and clms)

OutpostHD
OPHD has seen continued development and has made significant progress since the last newsletter. Developer leeor_net has provided consistent updates with screenshots, developer notes and videos. Complete source code (in C++) and Visual Studio 2015 project files are available via GitHub.

See the main forum post for additional details.

White Claw’s OPHD Contributions
With OPHD being mentioned again, we wanted to give special attention to forumite White Claw’s contributions to the project. He’s developed a large amount of replacement graphics and visuals for the game and continues to make remarkable progress.

We invite you to visit the thread showing his process for developing a new structure for OPHD.

You can see all of his work in the OPHD Graphics Update forum.

Twitch Streamer: Crow!
A community member, Crow!, has been streaming and uploading a variety of gameplay videos for Outpost 2. Go check it out!

Wrapping Up
Lots to share and hopefully we didn’t miss anything! If we did, tune in and share!

Thanks for the shout out, Leeor! And nice job with the news letter. Nice to hear some of what's going on, and I didn't know about Crow's videos. :)

There was supposed to be a corresponding e-mail with this but it seems the email server barfed on it... Will try to push it out again soon. :D

Yeah, I didn't get the original message, and seem to have received an empty message on the second try. Not sure what happened.

Perhaps there is a way to send to a restricted list to avoid spamming people while we figure out what is going on. (we = Leeor  :P)
