Vehicle hard and soft limits?
« on: December 09, 2016, 06:47:46 PM »
I searched for awhile but I can't seem to find a post about this.

I remember it being like 2048/players or something?
Pumping out awsome.

From Hooman's notes:

Code: [Select]
Player Unit limits:
-------------------

Play Veh Bldg Tot/P Tot
- --- --- --- ---
1 200 250 450 450
2 160 175 335 670
3 115 100 215 645
4 90 75 165 660
5 77 50 127 635
6 65 48 113 678

Per player unit limit isn't hard set, and can be exceeded
by producing structure kits before deploying, or starting
production on vehicles before the limit is exceeded.

Current unit limit: 1023
[Includes mining beacons, fumaroles, disasters, etc.]

maxNumGaiaUnits = 1023 - 678 = 345
[assuming players don't build past their individual limits]

These values are pre-1.3.5; starting with 1.3.5 they were doubled. The table is soft unit limits.

I could see a vehicle soft limit introduced in the form of some sort of resource-spending upkeep.

I think the main problem is is there's no differing pop costs for units. Both a Laser Lynx and a Thor's Hammer Tiger take 1 away from your cap. Not sure how well upkeep would work; it could be pretty horrible on maps like Pie Chart where you're only guaranteed a 2 bar common mine, and totally negligible on maps like La Corrida where you have so much income you don't know what to do with it, those two being the most popular LoS maps because they're roughly symmetrical. You could consider repairing damaged units to be a form of upkeep, but then again it's way too much of a pain in the ass to use garages to bother with that, and Repair Vehicles and Spiders only repair up to 50% and there is no "auto repair nearby units" feature.
