Outpost 2 [spanish!]
« on: November 20, 2010, 10:55:13 AM »
Good, I'm Trocolman, first of all, I apologize for expressing myself badly, is that I use the google translator xP

I make a brief presentation ...

I'm from Spain (that's why I say that I sound bad xD) and years ago I had the original game of Outpost 2 in Spanish, but one day the cd exploded inside the cd-rom.
Since then I looked this game in my language, but without results, then here I checked to see if he was lucky to find this game, but it was only in English, but today by accident, I put in google outpost 2 and me out this link:

http://juegosabiertos.com/abandonware/outpost2.php

The question, please ask if we might be in "download" the Outpost 2 do them in Spanish, so people like me can also enjoy this game in Spanish, thank you very much: D

must have been a faulty CD drive...

The main problem with other languages is that we don't have the audio files.  It *might* be possible to translate all the in game text (our coders can correct me if I'm wrong on this), but unless someone has the original Savant messages and the end cutscenes in the language it would be an incomplete translation.

A partial translation is possible, including the Savant voices (I know someone around here has a copy of those). We can't really translate things like the tech tree, mission objectives, etc. though.

If has the savant voices, then do they not have the original game disk?  If we have the original game, how hard would it be to impliment our updates to it?

You could just give him the CD image if all he's looking for is the game in Spanish. He might not be interested in the updates, or multiplayer. I'm pretty sure someone around here once posted a Spanish version for download.

As for applying patches to a different language version, that seems unlikely. From what I remember of one I looked at, all the addresses have moved around. It might not have even been compiled from the same version of the source, so certain patches might very well be inapplicable even if new addresses can be located.

I don't remember if the language selection code was ever really completely finished. Arklon also brings up a good point in that the tech trees will have a different checksum should the text in them change. But, that can probably be worked around with the checksum matching we once did back when sheets.vol was first decompressed.

I suspect the short answer here is he just wants a CD image to play single player with.

Aye, but who doesn't like free game patches? ;)
