Windows Xp

I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap way to get a copy of windows xp.  Also if it was possible to get any input if I should go ahead and upgrade to vista?  I have an old 64 bit single core processor.  Was also wondering if Microsoft ever fixed windows xp 64 bit edition and if there was any gain from me moving to that?

This might sound like another stupid question but at the moment Microsoft as me a little baffled on how they labled their flavors of Windows XP.  So if anyone could tell me whats the differences in the versions of XP?

On the right hand side of the page there are five links under the heading of:  "Windows XP Editions"

As you have said that you wanted the cheapest, then the cheapest legal version is Windows XP Home.

Otherwise go for Professional.  It includes various "features" for more advanced networking.

However as you don't know the difference between versions of Windows XP, I seriously doubt that you will need XP Pro.


Explaination of the other versions, if you can be bothered reading it

XP Media Center Edition is a pretty obvious labelling its for Media Center PC's and only comes in an OEM version (You have to purchase it with a piece of hardware).

Again Tablet PC is obvious - you don't need it.

And XP Pro x64, stay away from unless you have some 64 bit apps you need to run, the majority of drivers for it aren't as stable as their 32 bit counter parts, that is if the company even bothered to produce 64 bit drivers in teh first place.
