Voice Chat In Outpost 2?
« on: May 14, 2006, 03:49:53 AM »
Some online games I own have voice chat built in.  I even have a third-party voice chat program called Teamspeak.  I think it is a good idea to program voice chat for OP2.  But if no one wants to program it, we can always use Teamspeak or any other voice chat programs.

Some of us already use that (I think, I'm not one of them) and we don't have the ability to reprogram Outpost 2 with something like that.

The problem with team speak or any of the other 3rd party voice chatters is they are bandwidth hogs modem users wouldnt beable to use it. if every one in the game is using it then the you would have lag problems

teamspeak doesn't take very much bandwidth, yet the sound quality isn't as good as with skype, which hogs alot more bandwidth.

I haven't used Skype.. Isn't that more of a telephony app?

Besides teamspeak, I used Roger Wilco.. it was a VERY small application and didn't lag games at all but the sound quality was not the greatest.

skype on the other and is very power consuming (ram and BDW) I cant use it while I play wc3 at my mom house since it is not strong enough to manage both apps without huge lag.

basic spec 256 ram (more like 200 now because some is fried) and a dsl modem.

That would be cool, i know a program that me bro used, it was called something on the lines of "ventrillo". I am not sure the actual name, but he spoke with his clan when he was playing raven sheild (rainbow six 3). The quality was pretty good, and the game didnt lag at all, and this was some time ago, so i dont think it would screw up OP2.
Checkout my website, op2rules.net. It has free games, software, and snappy guides. Oh and did I mention the uber friendly community forums?
Life to me is a simple game that I utterly win at.

We've had issues like this lot in the past, and they never really caught on to the general public here. A couple of us would be on mIRC and play around with Teamspeak, but otherwise, it wasn't throughly used with the group.

Ventrillo, while being a good program; requires a specific server, and for server software to be purchased for groups larger than a specific number. Making it ineffective for a group like us.

The chosen few of you that use Modems still, (dial-up), are possibly in the minority. Almost everyone has upgraded to DSL and Cable these days; and that chosen few doesn't constitute revising the desires of the many.

Again, however; voice chat never truly caught on with us... It's almost impractical.
