I took another pic of my old workstation and the crap under the desk, here:

The curious looking thing to the right of the powerstrip happens to be a barcode scanner.

what is the use of a codebar reader unless you want to be a pro thief :P

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.

No real point to it, really. I got it for free from someone (so I can't complain!)

But, there might be some possible uses for it, for example, I might use it to catalog various CDs and DVDs that I have laying around. (Print a barcode on each of the discs, and by a simple scan I can know what's on the disc)

There might be other uses for it as well. If I collected things I could use it for that (but I'm not a collector, so there).

Who knows.

LOL Lordly_dragon. I've got the same issue.

I burned the 2004 Income report to a CD in December, and just threw it in a case, and put it in the archives room.

Yesterday, an employee from archives came to me and is like "Mr. Merchant, what's up with you and labels?" And I'm all WTF? What's up?

Turns out I didn't write anything on it, and everyone's looking for the Income reports so they can compare them to this year so far, but nobody has them- apparently.

Seriously, I pay these people all this money, but they can't put a disc in a drive and find out what it is for themselves? lol

Barcode scanner - good idea. I'll think of implementing that sometime soon.

That when you start getting the following message:

"Error: you are not allowed to know the contents of this disc"

Sure, I'll write the whole directory structure of a disc on the label. :P

Besides, it's easy to just scan the disc and see what's on it.

There could be other uses too. For example, to catalog some of these strange computer parts I have.

I have 3 comp cases at my desk, one is the one I use, one is torn apart and holds my unused boards (sound, modems, etc) and I have a totally clear plexiglass case w/ 7 fans, has a water cooling system (not set up) but my CPU parts were too small for it. Also: a printer (broke), a laptop (120Mhz!,1.99GB HDD, semi-broke) and a collection of about 500 floppies.
