How should the Community be run?
« on: March 23, 2005, 05:20:30 PM »
What's the best way everything should tick along?

We feel that people who use only the forum have no idea how the community has been progressing on IRC. Which clearly, we need to change and get more people involved overall.
It's been suggested to have all users able to post news on main site to help things moving and get people involved.

We were thinking of public open discussions? Much like city council meetings in the US. We could do something like this where we discuss things important to OPU that maybe not all the public knows about but should. These would be run on the forums.
We want more involvement, polls etc.

User made tournaments or have all tournaments organised centrally.

Any thoughts?

As for reunions/tournaments: make polls and ask, when people will have time. (with a certain timeframe of course. reunions are most effective after something important is released (like Outpost2 update))

allow everyone to post news on the main site is also a good idea (just make sure the person is regged in the forum, otherwise it could be abused by anyone).
Anyway, if someone abuses it, that person should be banned from using it.

Public open discussins about community issiues are just great.

1) find some people who are willing to go through all the fluff and post the latest developments of the community.  Whenever I'm on IRC and other people are there, all I see is talk about how to set up a router so you can play or some coding string that is not related to the OP2 code

2)Have you ever seen one of our city council meetings?  Half the time, not all the issues are gotten to because someone wants to drag out an issue that's been over with.

3)User made mini-tournaments would be fun.  Would be great way to spread new maps and get more of them used.  I always find it sad when I'm playing with someone who has been playing for little more than a year and the only map they've actually been ble to see is pie.  Let's get som LR, SR, RR, and Midas tournies going, there is more to the game than, as would be put by Beavis and Butthead, "yeah yeah, I just, like, um, totaly kicked your @$$" "Shut up, beavis!"
(hmmm...I seem to recall an actuall situation similar to that on IRC  :heh: )

That is one of the goals of World Domination, howevea that is just battle games still, LR and LoS.

If you go with a city councel type thing, I'd suggest making it so only a small number of issues are handled at a time (if on IRC) otherwise you might get people who will try to drag out certain ones to prevent other ones from being addressed

It would probably be done in forums as we can't have the whole team on irc at once (due to time diff).

Then definately use that system.  Each thing in its own thread, spam control, 'wandering' post redirection, it's all good

As far as meetings.

IMO they have to be run in a fully public forum. Have locked threads where we post the issues by themselves and our responses etc, then people can leave comments and whatnot in other threads.

How often... every week? every other wk ?

might be a good idea to make polls from issues that have been discussed enough.
would help to get a clearer position.
