Flash, think of it this way:
Let's say that when the idea was first presented we set up a development page (basically turning it into an open source project). The first step would have then been to create the core functions that are used a lot (such as building up the menu, moving around the map, etc.). This could have been done in those spots of time where all you are doing otherwise is waiting (such as when you're cooking dinner and it has to be in the oven for an hour or more). With the core functions in place, anyone in the community with any coding knowledge could have worked on various tasks within those same types of time slots. For example, while my coding background for the longest time was just getting started, I could have applied what I learned from teaching myself PHP towards the more simple tasks of a full fledged game instead of wasting time on RuneScape (which even when I was playing it a lot I was starting to feel like I was playing it just to kill time). This would have included anything from vehicle image and direction association to ore output calculations. The main thing I see that would have been sacrificed is the numerous outpost 3 projects that now stand abandond
