Any Outpost 2 Like Games?
« on: March 25, 2011, 02:55:05 AM »
Hello guys,

I'm big fan of Outpost 2, I'm playing it for years. I wonder, is there any modern Outpost 2 like game with similar atmosphere and/or similar gameplay?

Well, the original Outpost later influenced Sim City, but personally, I never really seen any games like it. I say that Civilization and alpha centauri always reminded me a bit of Outpost 2.

earth2150 is a game with a campaign with similar goals of the end-game of op2... build a spaceship and escape earth is what it's all about. And the fact that there arent enough resources for all three races resembles op2 even more. Though there are clear differences too.
Hit me up on discord, if I am online, you know I'll be gaming.

(Lord Of Pain is no more, I am currently now "Zardox" and have been for awhile on other platforms.)

Stronghold Crusaders you have to keep not only morale, but SEVERAL resources up...
the ones I remember are:
wood,
Iron,
Stone,
Wheat,
and Oil.

Then you also have different food resources:
Fruit,
Meat,
Bread,
and thers one more that I can't think of what it is...

One similar game in terms of gameplay mechanics would be Anno 1602 (and all subsequent releases, particularly anno 1701). While the setting is completely different (the colonial periods), the precepts are virtually the same: build your colony and keep your colonists happy while occasionally fighting off enemies. Although I think in the Anno series combat has a little less focus than the civic aspect...

I find the Anno series rather different.

Anno has a focus on acquiring resources whereas Outpost 2 is more centered around research (of course you will also need resources in Outpost 2, but your people won't suddenly leave/die if your metal supply is gone).

In Anno you have total control over the size of your population. In Outpost2 it will usually grow / shrink naturally.

In Anno you need gold to operate buildings. Outpost 2 has no real economy.
