Linking To Opu
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:47:57 AM »
*Hypothetically speaking*, say if I'm making a game.
And I want to include a bit of the outpost world/universe in it.
And I want to link back to OPU.
And the game is distributed to random people on the internet.

Would that be okay?

For example, random person #3 might be OP's copyrightholder's employee #126, and they might stumble upon my game, and click my link to OPU, and they might notify their superiors.
See what I'm getting at?

P.S. : I'm making a game that may or may not include a bit of the outpost universe

I don't imagine that'd be a real problem. We could use more members. We are already linked from a few places. Plus, some of the people that worked on OP2 seem to know about us already. So far nobody has complained (at least none that I know of). We'll address complaints if/when they come, but at this point I don't really expect to ever see any. It could be an issue if someone bought the rights to the Outpost series so they could market something new and wanted us shut down, but as Outpost wasn't that popular of a game, I don't really see that as being too likely right now. Even if it did though, we would probably end up being a source of free advertisement, which they might very well appreciate.

As long as you don't make money off of it...

It's been said that OPU would, under normal circumstances, already be in such troubles, especially with a free release of the improved OP2 version, yet it is not.

Of course, I don't represent the current official stance.

EDIT: well, I took to long to post this  :P

Anyway, so I'll probably will make my game OP-ish now.

Nah, my game is pretty noobish.. (and 100% free & download == source)

Heh, believe me, it's not.
It's going to be English, but so far it doesn't have any text or anything.
I've got the bare armature loading and parsing done, but I don't have any 'level' code.

So so far all you've got is a few buttons to add stuff and turn stuff :P

If you still want to download it, my repository resides here: http://github.com/AmIMeYet/cogs
But it requires that you install ruby and the gem called Gosu.

If you'll give me a minute I'll pack it up into a nice executable for windows.

Edit: Done. Go to github and download the 'source'. Extract the archive, and run main.exe.
