Simi-moble Gp(or A Gp That Can Be Deployed)
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:59:02 AM »
Ok I was thinking,

why not have a Guard Post mounted on a temperary vehical chassy.

The vehical would be defaulted to a light lazer when undeployed

has light armor tilldeployed *cuz armor plates are stored inchassy twards center so vehical dosn't offballance and tip over*

vehical chasse is used as part of turret after build (the vehicals reacter becomes turrets reacter and what not)

built at vehical factory.

DGP(Deployable guard post)
Common:500+(%for weapon)
Rare:450+(%for weapon)
Defence:Light armor
Default(undeployed)weapon: Lazer(or microwave if plymouth)
speed: medium

Ups: allows for you to implant Guard posts in areas your convecs cant reach
allows defence of remote areas *and allies*
and quick rebuilding of destroyed guard posts
Also multiple vehical factorys mean faster deployment of these.

Downs:Light armor makes it vulnerable till deployed
Not verry fast.
may require escort
Turrets DO gain reserch upg
i cant see any more feal free to post what you may think would be a down

And how can your ConVecs not reach the place, but this thing can?
Besides, we don't need a watered-down Guard Post; the current model isn't particularly useful as it is...

i forgot to mention this is an idea in progress if  you think it has a possability or soething needs changed make the sugestion.

as for you bomber they can join the attacking units and thus be there when there where as a convec is slow this has a midium speed and can keep pace with panthers *speed is due to the heavy armor and what not*

and for watered down i didnt whant people to think that this would be a way of *OMG I HAVE MGP LETS DEPLOT EM IN MY ENAMYS BASE BEFOR HE KNOW WHAT HAPPENING!!!!!!111one one one* cus i dont like those ideas but i guess it can have the upgrades but the light armors make up for it i guess.

Actually, I find Guardposts very useful, especially as they get a damage bonus when tubed, get a damage decrease bonus when dirts are present (25% is significant), and are extremely handy at stopping people who like to sneak flares and supernovae around.

Could work. Although the costs should be a bit higher.

the cousts didplayed are for the vehical classy if you whant em higher shure but the turret is where the bulk of the caust comes from.

i was thinkin half the coust of the turret + the chasse

This thing would be stronger than a panther, so it would have to cost at least a bit more than a panther chassis.

Ok i edited the prices but i was thinking that this would become so expencive as to be impractical to those that dont know how to get a lot of recources.

I almost pulled my hair out when I read that...
If it's "impractical" why even bother using it?!
And if it "becomes" (meaning it doesn't start that way) impractical due to high ore cost, then all you have to do is mass them while they're still cheap, and you just beat the system.

Well... the idea of deployable turrets is not entirely bad... but just make them balanced. I also think the undeployed form shouldn't have any weapons at all though...

Low cost=weak, High cost=strong

Deployable turrets should not have to take up its adjunct tiles like normal buildings, so they will still be useful. They could also add a new dimension to unit-only missions.

Im glad to se someone gets the idea.

and it would be impractacle if it was TOO EXPENCIVE

some people can still use it and like Hidiot said.

" They could also add a new dimension to unit-only missions. "

it would make defending an area easyer by allowing moble units a safe passage or rear covor.

Okay, I was hoping I wouldn't have to point out the obvious, but...
A "mobile GP" is just another combat chassis...
Except, you don't want a "mobile GP" so much as you want a Robo-Miner that deploys as a watered-down GP.
Actually, it sounds kinda like a "deployable" artillery unit, just with a regular weapon instead of artillery...
Regardless, why go through all the trouble of designing a new vehicle and creating a deployment/refolding system when ConVecs do the job just fine (better, actually: GPs are easier to repair than vehicles)?
A Guard Post is meant to be a permanent defense, not one that can move as needed.  That's called a vehicle, and a Guard Post is a structure, not a vehicle.  Use a Tiger if you want a mobile defense.

Uhh... If you waste resources making stable defences for all the outposts you may be abandoning then you have yourself wasted resources.

If you get attacked on one side and get your GP's destroyed, plus a good part of your "army", what's to stop the next wave from wiping you out? Maybe the rear defence that is just sitting there not helping.

Take no Structure Factory missions. You would much rather want to be able to relocate your GPs than just place them once to realize some of them have been misplaced.

Make tubes affect the deployed structure to add more possibilities.

I repeat: such units will add a new dimension to the combat system of the game. Not implementing it should be left at the discretion of the designing team.

And why would anyone abandon an outpost? This isn't Starcrap; resources last forever.
Now that I'm thinking of Starcrap, that has flying structures, doesn't it? If I recall correctly, however, none of the defensive structures can be relocated.  The more I think about this, it sounds more like a combo between Siege Tanks and flying buildings...

And I was between laughing, crying, and groaning when I read your complaint about "rear defenses doing nothing".  Be glad that they ARE sitting there doing nothing, and that you aren't getting attacked from more than one side...

Unit missions are called UNIT MISSIONS for a reason: you have to rely on your ability to guide a small group of vehicle to achieve victory, rather than just spamming massive amounts of cheap vehicles.  You don't have structures or a Structure Factory because the designers wanted to make sure you are forced to use what you are given to the best of your ability.

And as for tube benefits... Won't tubing all over the map "waste" resources (though who are you to say what is and is not a waste of resources? I'll use MY ore the way I want to, thank you very much)? Besides, if the whole point of this bucket of bolts is to be mobile, it should be able to run without some puny meatbag's assistance.  You can't have it both ways: if it's mobile/deployable, it should get none of the "tube benefits" of the regular GP.

I would like to point one thing out.

A tiger is basicly a GP that can move slow.

A mobile gp that has to stop and fire after deploying or just having to stop is pretty much a tiger or a heavier version of the tiger.

A gp can be contrusted any where there is space as it is.

There is a old saying if its not broke dont try to fix.

I thought it was a very cool idea actually! But like freeza said it wouldn't be practical. Perhaps for some kind of "arcade" map it would add a twist.

This idea reminds me a bit of the Siege Tank in Starcraft (slightly) in that it has mobile capabilities, but it really unleashes when it is emplayed as a static defense.

It would be slow, I think, since I must imagine that a guard post is quite heavy - mobile or otherwise - and light armor to conserve the already prodigious weight.
