An Interesting Colony Builder game...
« on: January 02, 2021, 02:15:39 PM »
So, ran across this game during the steam winter sale this year as part of a bundle of three games (I grabbed the bundle because I wanted Genesis Alpha One, and the other two looked interesting enough for a significant discount if you grabbed all three) [the three were Genesis Alpha One, Forged Battlion and Aven Colony].

The game in question is Aven Colony = https://store.steampowered.com/app/484900/Aven_Colony/

It feels similar to a cross between Outpost 2 and Tropico games. It doesn't have combat like in Outpost 2, but it does have a much more diverse set of disasters, colony management systems, and colony-wide morale.

If you are itching for a good colony builder, I'd suggest grabbing Aven Colony. Plus if you grab it today [Jan 2, 2021] (or during the remainder of the winter sale), it is 75% off.

It can be pretty unfair at times, like when you get nailed with 2+ disasters, have low power, and food supplies dwindling, but I've found it to be a pretty solid colony builder.

Generally anything bad can be addressed with some forethought and planning, and I've found at least that any calamities I've suffered are totally avoidable.

Usually my problem is I expand too fast, and then lack the food/water/power production to keep up with demands, and then run into massive shortages. Then if I get a disaster on top of those, its usually gameover. But when I keep on top of things, its often quite doable.
