Mesa Missions (Map File)
« on: February 16, 2017, 10:00:27 AM »
Hey everyone,

I managed to finish my first fully custom map (not just taking a modifying an existing map a bit). The map is for the follow on scenario for Rescue Escort, which I'm calling Mesa Missions. Although partially coded, I don't currently have time to continue work on the scenario, partly because the map took so long to make and partly because other things came up. It will likely be a long time before I get back to Mesa Missions. I'm fairly proud of how the map turned out.

Download: Mesa Missions Map Here.

I'm posting the map in case anyone else wants to use it in their own scenario. Please feel free to use it or modify it however you see fit if interested. If you modify the map, please rename it through so there is no versioning problems when I get around to actually finishing the scenario.

It is A LOT of work to make a fully custom map in our current editor! The most time consuming part is slowly picking the proper transition tiles between the sand, rock, and mud tiles. The other time consuming part is individually setting each cell type properly after laying all the tiles. It would be cool if someday we could take higher resolution photos (renders?) of the maps for display in the wiki and forum.

Agreed on all 3 parts. We could use some extra data sets to help with transition tile placement, and cell type placement. This has been a long known weakness of the current map editor. I was thinking we could use a separate tool that would render a map, potentially full in game scale, or potentially scaled by some factor. It would be really nice to view such maps on the website or wiki, rather than just the thumbnails.
