Title: The Community calls for...
Post by: Leviathan on April 07, 2004, 07:07:03 PM
I have been asked on IRC for Outpost 1 a lot lately.

People need an easy downloadable version of Outpost 1, at the same time they should be informed about the new version of Oupost 1 which is being made by leeor_net.

Could someone please produce a downloadable version of Outpost 1.
Music and Vids should be riped to make the download smaller.

thx

I would, but I have a Strict rule about giving my stuff away.
Even if it is just data.

If they want a copy they can buy one on EBay.

I would try to rip an iso for you if I had the game lol.

Man, with all the stuff people are saying about op1, I'm almost tempted to buy a copy for myself! Notice how I said Almost...

Kiith,

You seem to be unaware that I happen to have a copy myself. Well, rather, a legal liscence to one. I have since lost the CD and the data from my version is unavailable.

I simply need some of the tiles and building graphics with a map or two to get started. That's purely what I need at the moment.

Well... oh well...

If someone sent me the ISO of it, I could make a downloadable version.

Buy it off of Ebay. I got mine for $1 after I lost an auction where one went for 55 cents (I wasn't on in the last minutes of the auction and someone sneaked in and outbid my 50 cent bid with 55 cents, but I got one for a dollar, so it's okay.) It is really cheap there, so go buy it for yourself.

If it was as simple as logging on to E*Bay and shelling out $3 bucks, I'd have done it already.

I don't have a credit card. Nor a debit card. Nor even a bank acount.

Nor do I have a place that I can ship it to. That's why this is such a difficult task.

I'm curious about the game myself, but ive heard from many, many sources that op1 was terrible (reason why op2 wasnt strongly marketed). The most ive ever seen of the game is 1 or 2 screenshots, thou. What do you people think of it?

OP1 was pretty aweful. That's why I'm rewritting it.

Download the link below as I think it works. See for yousrelf.

See, the concept is sound. But the game itself doesn't work as well as it should. The gameplay itself is pretty miserable. Outpost: Missing In Action (http://www.geocities.com/outpostmia) will correct that.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news - but can anyone read COPYRIGHT - even though OP 1 is abandoned by Sierra the copyright is still in force for another few years - so get one on ebay - get a friend to help you purchase it - GASP you might even ask your parents to help - <novell idea that>

Then you gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky?

Would Sierra waste time and money on defending a copyright they most probably don't care about anymore?

If they send a cease and decist order, then we stop hosting it :-P

Actually I'd really like to purchase their copyrights for all Outpost material.  I wonder if Stellerware actually did this?  Anyone know?

Didn't Ttamdude say he bought the op2 copyright? Or was he joking...?

From what I have heard, some of the people on the forum have been given permission to hack/modify Outpost stuff.
The only thing they can't do is sell the original game.

So I think a downloadable op1 would be ok.
I mean, they have op2 free.

Hi,
as I know both OP1 and OP2 were declared abandonware?

I had seen some reviews on OP1 and I hadn't seen any with rating better than
2.8/10. But the game is great, and it could be better, if it would be mixed with OP2 a little.

Also, I want outpost.exe (OP1), because I do have only German version and I speak German just like English when I was 6 ( not. I started learning English in 6 :D ) and the language barriear is very big. I'm not able to finish the game on any bigger difficulty than Novice...

I know this is kinda like trolling up the topic, but since I'm new I believe you can forgive me. I just thought I'd add something useful:

As I know it (And I learned a bit about this due to the other game I played, Total Annihilation) if it is no longer possible to obtain the game via Real World store, or retail websites online (this doesn't include E-bay), it's officially abandonware, and can be hacked/modded/put up for download. However if someone attempts to Resell, or mod/hack and resell, the copyright owner can sue for royalties, infringement and the like.  The other game I play, the one I mentioned above, has for years been borderline abandonware. The company which made it has since closed, and the company who owns the rights has simply filed them away in some dark corner never to see the light of day again. However, since it is still possible to buy it online, and even obtain the expansion pack, it cannot be declared abandoneware yet.  Just thought this might help. I'd personally love to be able to just try out even a demo of OP1 as I never saw it heh :)

The only way to obtain the expansions for this game is to go to fan sites/pages (lol, mine fites under pages, like I'd waste my whole site on one game)

I would buy this game, but my version doesn't work with anything past win 3.1, so if anyone has a good fix for it, or has a version that does work. it would be appreicated.
