Title: The Private Messaging System
Post by: OP2Patriot on March 19, 2003, 04:47:03 PM: I get an error telling me "Failed at mail command" or something like that. But it seems my messages do get through. I hope that message I sent CK9, Betaray, Duo, and xfir got through. Maybe I can make a thread if nobody got the message.

I did get the message though.

(Xfir: check the PHP settings and usr/sbin/sendmail to be sure it's working)

do they let you edit php.ini here, xfir?

That error was on Flatface.

huh? why do you say that? Why would they care if your script gave an error? (Unless they think you're spamming with mail())

The only way for us to get any more errors would have to be an error on my part with coding, or the host deciding to drop PHP. The latter is impossible, while the first is likely. But as of late, I haven't modded anything.

Post by: BlackBox on October 05, 2003, 02:03:03 PM: I think it's possible that the mail command will fail if sendmail cannot be run, probably due to one of the following:

1) the server is too busy and it can't fork a new shell to send commands to, or can't run sendmail for similar reasons
2) sendmail is down or they are modifying it
3) the SMTP server that handles the messages is down
4) the PHP no longer works with the system setup (ie. They changed php.ini)

Those are all faults that no one user would be responsible for (in most cases)
