Title: CopyLeft Status
Post by: Zhall on August 29, 2017, 11:08:16 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that Sierra was bought by Activision and Activision also owns Blizzard.

Doesn't that mean that creating a version of Outpost 2 on the StarCraft 2 engine is creating content that Activision owns on property that Activision also owns?

Sierra was purchased by Vivendi which was later absorbed by Activision.

The result is that Activision likely owns the Copyright (no copyleft bullshit here, please don't ever use that word again) but nobody really knows the actual status of the intellectual property rights for the Outpost games.

Semi-related, the trademarks have expired and have not been renewed so it's safe to say that Activision has no interest in the IP.

As long as we can still play the Outpost games, I'm fine with that!  :D
