Title: RE: Lurkers
Post by: leeor_net on August 25, 2016, 01:12:59 PM
Came across this post: http://forum.outpost2.net/index.php/topic,5453.0.html

And kind of agree with it, wondering if we should do a purge after a community wide e-mail? As I'm not one of the admin's I can't make the submission but would be willing to help sift through the obvious bot accounts and maybe even write the community e-mail. Perhaps we should even do a quarterly community news letter?

I know OPU went dormant for a few years but things seem to be picking up and with several projects and updates we should maybe consider giving it another shot for the holiday season?

Few thoughts on updates and active projects (again, not trying to toot my own horn so I'm trying to be as objective as I can):

To name a few.

With the Redmine and Wiki posts, I know that there has been some issues raised with them not being on outpost2.net domains/servers but I personally asked Leviathan to host both of these installations to demonstrate what we could do with better content so these could/should be hosted on Outpost2.net to integrate everything later.

The old wiki can be placed under oldwiki.outpost2.net or wikiold.outpost2.net to preserve it. DokuWiki is mature, well maintained and it's easier to learn and create visually attractive pages with. I've limited registrations at the moment due to spam bot issues.

Redmine is a great project management application and if we don't want to host it on Outpost2.net it may still be useful to mention it for those users that may want project management for their projects.

I'm not sure there is any productive benefit to doing a purge. What exactly does that accomplish?

There has been a number of developments that may be worth celebrating. That may be worth advertising in a newsletter.

So forget the purge, still think a news letter should be pushed to remind people that we're still here alive and kicking and that there's some interesting new stuff to check out from a number of contributors.

Would you be willing to write the newsletter?

Does anyone else have an opinion on this, or what is worth talking about?

Try to get a hold of _A_ regarding the status of her Outpost 2 remake ?

She's not the only one working on such a deal -- Haven't heard much from the three attempting such a project and assuming it's kind of on the backburner for the time being. Not surprised, not upset, kind of how things go especially when you consider we work on these things for free in whatever spare time we get.

I don't think any of those projects have anything super concrete about them yet but I'll try to follow up and glean some info from them.

Well, _A_ had gotten far enough to make a little playable demo :D

So my faith is with her ;)
