If you have interest in bringing back the game days and making them a regular thing, please say what days work for you. I'm going to try my best to organize this and maybe add something more to it.
-
When is it supposed to be scheduled?
-
I would prefer it to be one day of a weekend, or perhaps a weekend itself ?
-
It would be kind of bad if its on a weekday
-
Well, A weekend does make the most sense :p
I was hoping to get a feel for what months/days tend to be easier to work into people's schedules rather than saying "okay, let's have it this day" and end up having a full "can't do it"
-
What do you people think about Saturdays
-
Saturdays definitely seem the most friendly.
BTW, I just now noticed my error with the caps lock...not sure how I managed that
-
Sounds interesting, but NetFix must be fixed, first. (currently I have the impression that the game server is not working)
-
CK9 - Any day can turn out badly in terms of people coming or not. And lets face it, it's hard to know your schedule a long way upfront.
However, I would chose dates so that they avoid certain situations during the year, like exam periods, school/university starting, major holidays (Exception here might be Christmas which in my part of the world involves going home to family to relax).
Other than this.. it's just a matter of trying. We used to have events for both summer and Christmas a few years back.. both turned out ok.
-
Exam days are hard enough to predict since there are some campuses on quarters and others on trimesters...
Okay, I'll look at a calendar for a while and come up with some date ranges for people to give a general idea. While most of a schedule is up in the air until much closer to the date in question, there are things that people know very far in advance.
-
Also considering that timezones aren't really helpful either. I mean, who even invented those?
-
Give Day, I shall play.
-
I can definitely try to be there as long as possible
-
Okay, here's what I'm thinking:
Spring: second Saturday of May
Summer: second Saturday of July
Fall: second Saturday of September
Winter: second Saturday of February
Why always the second Saturday? Unless I am horribly mistaken, no holidays fall within the three days that the second Saturday centers. Also, if anyone here is still in school (I think I was one of the youngest members of the community and I've already finished a Masters program. Then again, I've been wrong about the community age range before.) it *should* avoid conflicts with exams.
Why these months? Again, unless I am horribly mistaken (Which I very well could be) there aren't any holidays to conflict with the days.
-
Second Saturday of February? That's next Saturday, right?
-
Seems it is... I'm busy that day thou :/
-
'tis always the case when I select a day that someone who is interested is busy, heh
-
Can't please everyone CK9 :)
-
I'll try being there. But with my luck, I will probably miss everyone. Or alternatively, my computer will spontaneously combust. Either one.
-
I'll try to hop on IRC tonight and tomorrow to let people who don't use the forum know...I still think it's strange that people wouldn't want to use it.
-
Is there still a crowd on IRC ? Who is there ?
-
Just so people know, I did not forget about this. I just found out this morning that I have been "volunteered" to help move a bunch of furniture around. I will try to make it on later.
-
Well I'm on and checking every so often for someone new.
I'm thinking, I'm so out of training that it's going to be interesting.
Edit: Well, not anymore.
-
Well guys, I'm sorry that I wasn't able to attend and I screwed up on the organization part. I'm hoping the next one will go smoother since there is more time beforehand.
-
Oh well, maybe next time.
-
If I could mass-email the forum users, i'd make e-fliers for it and everything, but it has been made very clear that mass-emailing is not okay to do :/
-
I'd have to say, if I got an email about this I would totally show up.
-
A lot of people would, but the forum TOS (as it was written for the old forum anyway, I haven't seen if that was copy+pasted over) specifically says that we will never mass email people.
-
Next Saturday is game day if I'm right. Oh dear.
-
Should figure out where to meet then ? Spark is still down by the looks of it :/
-
Post 1)
That's what I was thinking, what a perfect time for it to go down.
~~~~~~~~~
Post 2)
So, anyone having an idea where to host a chat?
-
Return to IRC maybe ?
-
Post 1)
Does anyone know how to do that? I don't have much experience.
~~~~~~~~~
Post 2)
No ideas? Anyone? It kind of has been a while since the last post.
-
We could just make a chatroom on quakenet or something ? We used to have our own server, but we used a public one in the start i think..
In any case, I'm no expert, and maybe there is a quick fix to the chat issues, we just need one of the mods to fix it. Has anyone tried sending a mail (In case they dont check here)
-
I admit I don't actually know who was managing the chat. But it's worth a try, do you know who we can talk with?
-
Hooman or Galactic I think.
BlackBox seems to have taken a permanent vacation ?
-
Alright, looks like there's not much of an alternative. So, who's going to send them mail? Do you know them better?
-
Can you try sending them a PM ? Unless you have their e-mails ?
I tried sending a PM, but not sure I actually managed to get one sent as the send button doesnt seem to load properly..
-
Galactic's account seems to allow sending him E-Mails. I just don't know if I should.
-
Well, the chat is down and we cant fix it and it cannot fix itself :(
-
Alright then, I am going to see what I can do.
-
I've gathered up a lot of server management and development skills over the past few years. I can lend a hand and set up an IRC or XMPP based chat system on my server if the official one is permanently out of commission.
-
I've sent a mail to galactic a few days ago, I haven't recieved an answer yet. So we'll have to see. However, I'd really like the chat to be back, you just can't organize matches like this.
Let's just wait a week.
-
Sounds good. Shoot me a PM if it's needed.
[Edit]
I've got it up and running, and I've tested it with Spark. Seems to work flawlessly. For now I've got two rooms set up: General Chat, and Match Making. If nothing else, it'll be good as a backup server. :)
-
I almost forgot, but next saturday is game day. Let's see if timezones screw us again.
-
Sat the 12th or the 19th? Saying "next" always confuses me, haha.
-
The second saturday of july, which should be the 12th if I'm not mistaken.
-
That'd be fun. I have a few things to do that morning, but I'll probably be free around 2:30-3pm EST.
-
Well shoot, I was gone all day. Any one upto a game tomorrow (13th) round 5pm est?
-
Difficult to say. I'm having all kinds of connection problems.
-
Spike, I'll probably be around and up for a game around then.
-
How to change the spark to connect to your server Drakmar ?
-
Log out of it's current server, and follow these instructions: http://newterrancommandsite.com/chatroom.html
[EDIT] Also, in order to chat, you'll have to register with the room once you enter it. Spark has a little button in the bottom right that looks like red, yellow, and blue people which is it's register button.
-
i'm playing right now if anyone is interested (darkmars is on too)
-
We used to do gaming Friday's/Friday nights. I suggest we look at doing that again. IRC is starting to become active again. Come on IRC if you want to play :)
-
After talking to a few people Sundays might be better as people are more likely to be home. What does everyone think?
-
I'd be happy to play again sometime, but the thing that always throws it off is the timezone differences. Also, if I get in a game, I would like to request a map OTHER than pie...last time we had regular-ish games that seemed to be all that anyone wanted to play.
-
How about cake? Everyone likes cake! ;)
-
Very much agreed, CK9. Pie is the most unbalanced rush-centric map ever, and I really don't understand how it ever became popular.
La Corrida is pretty good for a LoS map; it's symmetrical (a rarity amongst OP2 maps) and the ore is generally fair. My favorite map (not counting Survivor, of course) is Fractures (LR).
-
In the old days, Pie was probably the best balanced LoS 6 player map.. so it was only natural it became the most played as well.
Also at that time, the rushing play style was pretty common, something which fits Pie well..
La Corrida is also pretty good, but it can occasionally leave players with only a single 1-bar rare, which is annoying. (Also, with only 1 entrance, it's either noob friendly or lacks diverse strategies - whichever option floats your boat I guess haha)
-
I always like LaCorr because it fits my play style better than most maps. Having a defendable chocke point used to allow me to deal with rushers better. I also always have liked Fractures and Root (mostly assthetically). I don't think I have ever played on the two maps I pieced together from the campaign missions. While I am far from happy with how some things came out on it (such as initial unit placement and ores) I would love to give them a go some time.
-
I really like La Corrida, it was a very popular map. Also played some great games on Fractures.
I played Pie loads but hated the imbalances with it. I think it was played so much as there was not much that was better at the time.
As per timezones.. yes it can be a issue. But first we should try and agree on a game day.. I think Sundays would be good.
-
I remember playing the game a long, long time ago back before it turned into a CPM race. I enjoyed fast paced combat and long time exploration and building and light combat.
Unfortunately most of the games played at OPU tend to be CPM races so I probably won't join in too many games if any (plus I tried a few here asking that they not be races and the other users would say okay and then do it anyway). But I will certainly be happy to join in for the group chats!
