Hey you guys, you know a lot abou op2 and have hacked in it a lot so why not place a faq in gamefaqs.com?
i can be a strategy one as well as an game mechanics one no?
-
Yeah, placing a game mechanics guide and strategy guide would be good for gamefaq's.
However, I think that creating a hacking guide and putting it on there would be too in depth for most.
You do have to know what you are doing. (Like, it's nothing that a first time programmer would do or could do... I've been programming for 5-6 years now.)
-
I've been programming for a while. Can you explain OP2 Hacking to me?
The gamefaqs sounds good. :)
-
Well, what part of it would you like to know about? :hack:
-
Um... Map DLLs, Map Editor Source code, or anything else op2 related.
-
i no little about op2. but id like 2 at least no the basics.
-
I personaly don't think it would be a good idea to put up a hacking guide anywhere othere than in here. If we go spreading around info that has to do with hacking the programming code, even if it is old and not used, there is a chance that Sierra will take legal action against all those involved.
-
lol ?
-
no joke, think about it. Although they abondond the game, it still is their programing code
-
But isn't it also true that Kevin got permission for the entire community to reverse engineer the program?
So long as we don't give it away free, we are allowed to reporgram it.
Anyway, Dynamix has been shut down. They held the original code anyway.
-
I didn't meant placing a hacking guide in it, i just tried to say that since you hacked in it the mechanics would be more clear.
There is also a faq there from a guy that sincerely, it must have ruined the game fame around there y'know?
Also, somewhere among the various forums we used in the past i heard that the op2 original code was lost in cleanup they made.
-
i dont know if u guys ever looked at a topic i stared but, i was wondering if u guys could write up a strategy giude and what not and cheats and ill host them on my site http://degc.net (http://degc.net) what do you think?
-
No cheats, we don't want people to start cheating again, the fair games are kina nice, even though lev whoops me every time lol.
-
I can come up with a bunch of strategies, just can't ever test them because I don't have the skills needed.
-

I agree.. Do not post any of the Dan's cheats.... Also, do not post trainers in an easy-to-get-at spot.
CK: What do you mean by "I don't have the skills needed"? You've been playing OP2 longer than I have.
-
I think he means he doesn't play lev enough, i beat ck the last game i played him, and u have all been playin op2 longer then me.
-
well if any of u are willing to do this make a strategy guide or what not or a faqs, just email it to info@degc.net i might even make a special page for it :) so that it will include everything related to op2 :)
-
Hacker, I had a period of about 2 years without playing online. Before it, plymouth would have been begging for mercy. I have forgotten what it was I did.
-
ck, i've been playin op2 for less then a year online, it wasn't till August or something like that that i discovered these boards and that there are several projects goin on. Your probably right about me have been begging u for mercy 2 years ago, my strategy was way off then, and i lost to noobs on sta2 then.
-
*shakes head with exasperation*
It was over 2 years ago. If I had my skills from then, I'd woop you.
I think it was around 97 - 99
-
ouch, but i normaly get the hang of things pretty fast once i've been out for a while.

HEY!!!
What's wrong with cheats?
I don't know abou multiplayer and if they work there but in single player they really enchance the game after you have fineshed it 100% dosn't they?
I myself do things twice, play normal then i fuss up with cheats.
It's fun to smash that whole army that gave you lots of trouble int that level with just 1 unit.
PS:Also, I would reeealy apreciate someone whooping me online for me to learn how to play
-
 LOL, I never heard of someone wantin' to get whooped. If you wanted to get whooped ask Lev, Ply, me, etc.... (thumbsup) I'm always there if somebody want's to get whooped
-
prime, If lev and I were on a team together back then, only Falcon could stop us.
-
um, i agree, if u were once as good as lev. The next update for op2 should have the ability to make it so u can't attack ur oppenent(s) untill a specific period is up, say 5 mins, then we would have a chance against lev. And prime, ur not there, and i want a game of op2, lev is afk, and has been afk the hole day it seems.
-
Prime, I wasn't nearly as fast as lev, but I got so many units up that it was overwhelming to my opponents. Whatever happened? :find:
-
you already told us, u stopped playing for 2 years.
-

Well, I'm not going to even try and explain it unless you can meet these conditions: (if you do, then that's fine)
1- You HAVE to know something about programming in a language like C/C++, or know something else like VB in and out. (Not a whole lot, but I expect you to know some... If you are a master at VB, just go online and learn about C or C++. Specifically you should know about variables, function calls, memory access, especially pointers.) If you've never programmed, you'll have to get up to at least this point. Otherwise it probably won't make sense to you.
2- You should know how to use hex editors, disassemblers/debuggers is a plus.
The more you know about these, the better you will be at reverse engineering.
(if you take the time to learn Assembler it will GREATLY help you... understanding assembler is pretty much required to do any reversing)
3- Time to learn.
I'll find some websites and give you links to them, as far as the topics of cracking, reversing, etc.
-
What is it I did that I have forgotten? Maby it was the Acer Aspire.
-
the ability to make it so u can't attack ur oppenent(s) untill a specific period is up, say 5 mins
yea, its called a mark game.
-
i mean to enforce it. Like on sta2 u can have a ciese fire.
-
well if some 1 breaks the mark u could just virus their comp
that would stop em from doin it again..
just an idea
-
well for one thing, i don't have a clue on how to hack, make or get a virus without being harmed, and how to send it. The only thing i semi know how to use is the hex editor, and i only now how to fix .dll files for op2 maps
-
Op2hacker, I'd like to learn. I know VB almost 95% (Except API's) , a decent amount of C++ and I also know how to reverse engineer. Do you have a guide?
BTW, I can write a help file and tutorial for the map editor, just PM me.
-
How much reverse engineering do you know?
I may give you a "test", ie. Crack this 30days demo and show me how you did it..
-
stupid question for the programers of this site, but good question for the non-programers and no one with expeirience programing, "How do u reverse enginer?"
-
um, that's pretty hard to explain in depth.. But I'll give you the condensed form...
Decompiling a program, reading the raw machine codes, understanding it, and maybe even changing parts of it or adding on to it.
-
ah, that works. btw, hex wrokshop 4 has the ACSII code in it, as well as some others, so i could use that to learn ACSII and the others it has. I wish it had tutorials though, that would greatly decrease the difficulty.
-
tutorials on how to reverse engineer? you won't find that with a hex editor.
All you really have to know how to do with a hex editor for most reverse-engineering stuff is how to edit bytes, and fill X number of bytes with the code XX. (In hex workshop that is the command Edit>Fill)
To edit code you figure out the new assembly instructions, and using a lookup table or something you get the raw bytes for the instructions (I have stuff like this)
-
well, that works, anyone know where i can download a good free version of a java programer? (basicly it makes java programs if u don't know, i can't remember wht it is called, something like java editor)
-
http://java.sun.com/ (http://java.sun.com/)
It's called the Java JDK.... Look in the downloads section.
It has everything you need to write a java program.
To compile your files you just enter this command after chdir'ing to the \bin folder of the JDK (or if you added the bin folder in your PATH)
javac Your source filename.java
Then it spits out a corresponding .class file.
Once all the classes your prog. needs are compiled you can run the app. like this:
java Your ClassName (do NOT add .class, it's case sensitive!)
-
thank you hacker, now i can continue my self teaching of programing since my friend refused to let me borrow his java program editor/creator thing.
-
i'm with lev, i would like to learn how to hack too
-
huh? when did lev say he wanted to hack?
-
I know that you wanted to and garrett wanted to... Am I correct?
-
um, if that was directed to me i think u were.
-
i was, and lev said that back on the first page of posts
-
ah, lev said he wanted to know the basics, am i right?
-
I'll explain it in this thread once for everyone to see:

-
Now...
Did any of you think abou making a faq?
-
yea.... this has kinda gone off topic some what :(
