Title: Hamachi Fullness.
Post by: jcj94 on May 03, 2011, 03:18:12 PM
I am not liking the fact that people are idling in the Hamachi networks.  It gets tiresome, and anytime I try to have my friend play, he goes to the OutpostUniverse.net site, hoping (even though I told him not to) that the opu server listed there won't be full.

I was wondering what was done/ can be done to try and get these back, or have we just abandoned them all together?

What is the current state of NetFix?  As in, how reliable is it (I distinctly remember being able to hold several 6 player games using NetFix, just last summer).

Make your own Ham network if you have a problem with the current ones. Netfix works when it wants to work, it's just some people have problems with connecting/hosting with it, saddly.

There used to be a bot that cleaned out the opu networks on hamachi.. but something happened to it i think.

It was on a server that got shut down. I don't think it ever got started up properly again.

I found the config files for it (RSA keypairs and the scripts that made it actually work) but it looks like I can't log in with it. LogMeIn must delete users that haven't logged in in a long time from their server (that's the only thing I can figure, there aren't any other status/error messages besides "failed" when it tries to connect to Hamachi. I can tell it to generate a new keypair and it works, so it's not like the linux client has stopped being able to connect).

I might try seeing if I can contact logmein and get them to transfer control of the networks to a different account (I would think I would be able to prove that I have control of the bot account since I have its RSA keypair and it was the admin of all of the networks).

Otherwise I'd suggest just making a new network when you need to set up a game. You can just delete it again afterwards.

Another option that might be a possible one would be setting up a different VPN server that we can directly control (openvpn is one that comes to mind, I'm not sure how well it would work for OP2 though). Are there really that many people though who can't play using netfix?

That's what I was wondering.

I know on certain computers, I can't host, but on others I can't join.

I think some people have had issues along these lines, where, if they attempt to host a game, no one can see it, however, if they join, it works perfectly fine.  Most of the time, this isn't an issue, however, if you get two or more people who can't host...

Netfix doesn't work as well as it should. From my experience hosting only works with portforwarding and will often even require the HostPort option. Joining seems to work for most people, but some of the games that I played desynced after a while (i.e. the "lost contact with ..." box appears - although everyone is still connected to irc). The new Netfix (which is only attached in some forum thread) works somewhat better, but has still issues.

Should we put out another edition of the Op2 download?  Or just have a link to the download and have an install guide on the Op2 Download site, so we can just update THAT instead of Op2 every time.
