Uhh... What?
Could you be a bit more specific?
Title: Renegades
Post by: CK9 on March 25, 2009, 01:35:37 PM
yea, we have no idea what "it" is...
Title: Renegades
Post by: Sirbomber on March 25, 2009, 01:55:34 PM
Well, "it" probably refers to Renegades, as the topic title suggests...
But what part of Renegades?  Are you having trouble installing it?  Running it?  Download it?  Be specific.

well the fact he said "It doesn't do anything it just sits there looking at me" makes me think one of 3 things:
1) game isn't loading --> needing to run in compatability mode
2) menus aren't responding to clicking --> possible corruption in coding
3) colony isn't listening to commands --> huston, we have a problem

4) not using correct OP2 version --> Use the one supplied on the renegades' website

Sorry It refers to the game itself I have the ver of OP2 that is here at the site so run in older ver anything else I should be aware of?

Rather it said windows is searching for outpost2.exe

You probably installed OP2 to the wrong directory, or put Renegades in the wrong place.

Check the instructions...

I'm thinking that, when you installed renegades, you just hit next on each window, 'cause I remember it asking me which directory the executable is in.

BTW, eddy, did you guys ever find the cause of the bug?

Post by: Exile on March 25, 2009, 11:38:21 PM
Are the instructions on this site or the Renegade site. Cause the Renegade site is down right now and I can't find it. So what are the instructions if anybody has em on hand

Just do what it says when you're installing it.
But, since I have some free time, I'll give you a tip.
Whatever folder you installed OP2 to, install Renegades to that folder + "modren" (so, for example, if you installed OP2 to "C:\Sierra\Outpost 2 Divided Destiny\" you'd want Renegades installed to "C:\Sierra\Outpost 2 Divided Destiny\modren\").  I'm pretty sure it automatically does that for you, though, so just give it your OP2 directory.  Then, run the Renegades shortcut.

1.3.4

Post by: Exile on March 27, 2009, 01:45:02 PM
Alright got it fixed thanks SB. as it would turn out since I told my computer what to do it decided what I had to say wasn't worth listening to and put it in another folder.

Btw weird bug probably have seen it before but when evac transport gets killed (Mission four) By the rail gun thats near the mini volcano it freezes
Title: Renegades
Post by: Sirbomber on March 27, 2009, 03:32:03 PM
There's an Evac Trans in Mission 4?
If you're talking about the defector's ET in Mission 3, if that gets killed (or put inside a Garage) the mission should end in failure.

Post by: Exile on March 27, 2009, 04:38:29 PM
Yeah my bad mission 3. And it likes to freeze at time index 1281. and I only needed the Evacs yay I get to play it over again!

Post by: Sirbomber on March 27, 2009, 05:09:10 PM
Well, Eddy-B did warn that Missions 3 and 4 were buggy...
Title: Renegades
Post by: Exile on March 27, 2009, 05:22:09 PM
Top notch programing bugs aside. But what are the other three missions like?
Title: Renegades
Post by: CK9 on March 27, 2009, 06:54:20 PM
let's see...the first 2 are kinda boring and frustrating to try to complete without sound, the third takes a couple of tries to get done perfectly, the final (fourth) is very difficult, even on the easiest level.  I ended up using the weapon distance trainer to finish it, and lost almost all my attack units still.
Title: Renegades
Post by: Exile on March 27, 2009, 08:29:31 PM
yeah on normal I can just nearly make it before it decides to freeze on me
Title: Renegades
Post by: Exile on March 27, 2009, 08:42:44 PM
This is just stupid it freeze's like 3-4 seconds before i'd complete the level
Title: Renegades
Post by: Hidiot on March 28, 2009, 02:14:56 AM
Mission 4 is silly.

I was just lucky to have finished it once, after numerous tries (on easy).

What bugs me the most is that you may just take the time to research Stickyfoam in the previous mission, and still you get none in the next mission. Either the rebels are missing something in the tactics department, or Eddy-B just wanted to make our lives harder.

I would really like a Sticky RPG.

And finally when I finish all the objectives it freezes like 1 second before it says mission completed. all I have to say is this you are a cruel horrible person eddy lol

Well, your choices are the original OP2 campaigns, which are boring, Renegades, which is buggy, and MT2, which is blatantly incomplete.
Title: Renegades
Post by: Exile on March 28, 2009, 12:39:34 PM
I still find them fun. I don't find them boring. and MT2 is Multek?
Title: Renegades
Post by: Sirbomber on March 28, 2009, 01:38:35 PM
Yeah, Multitek2.  It's "real" title is "Edge of Extinction" (EoE) but I'm not sure I really like that name, so I still call it MT2.

What is it exactly new colony game pack?
Title: Renegades
Post by: Sirbomber on March 28, 2009, 06:07:33 PM
New campaigns.  Planning 3, only got Missions 1-4 for Eden done so far (though they still need work).

Post by: Exile on March 28, 2009, 09:54:52 PM
Yeah the main problem with OP2 is it leaves you hungry for more and without the online ability it never gives you your fill. So looking forward to them

Post by: Sirbomber on March 28, 2009, 10:11:35 PM
Errr, we have online multiplayer, you know...
Title: Renegades
Post by: CK9 on March 28, 2009, 10:52:33 PM
problem is finding people to play against, though
Title: Renegades
Post by: Exile on March 29, 2009, 02:07:31 AM
The whole Hamichi thing didn't work for me because I couldn't connect to the games and you guys wanted me to turn my firewall off which would leave my computer defenseless i'd love to play online but my computer would get virus owned

We also have Netfix, made by our most special friend, Hooman (just had to add that flattery  :P )

But, it's not perfect. It can't do the port forwarding on its own, and it may require some router settings, which may or may not work.

Also, you don't need to completely turn your firewall off, just add an exception rule for OP2.

I did tell it to allow it didn't feel like listening to me

:) It's good to hear people still enjoy playing Renegades!
I've done that a couple years ago already.. and everytime i set out to tackle the bugs, i get strayed off from the task by something, sometimes even before i figure out everything again about OP2 & Renegades programming.

Anyway, as the guys here mentioned: missions 3 & 4 are a bit buggy. The source is rather complex and it can be hard tracking down freezes or exceptions that occur in the OP2 game engine and not directly in the mission dll. That's why the bugs are still in there.

I enjoyed it a lot. Shame that bugs cannot be nice and let you squish it. Any idea when you might find them as I find this very very cruel we have an amazing new series of missions and we can't even finish them
