Thor's Hammer is an actual project if you didn't know, it's a big thing that generates lightning. And lightning is common........

It only proves further that Outpost 2 is/was a great influential genre-molding game.

Heh, I saw particle accelerator and went, "Large Hadron Thor's Hammer O' Doom."

Then I saw it was a mobile artillery piece.

thors hammer is a really common name especially when a game associates it with its namesake; lightning

so its not that their ripping off op2, its more like they're using a tried and true system. besides, that unit looks more like a recycled siege tank on legs, hence making siege tanks useless.

In the space opera series Ginga Eiyū Densetsu - Legend of the Galactic Heroes - there was a space station that served as a midway point between two sides of a millenial war. The primary weapon of this spherical station was a devastating weapon capable of incinerating fleets.

This weapon, which used lightning bolts arcing between points, was called the Thor's Hammer.

LoGH was published in book form in 1982, and later animated in 1988.

Outpost 2 was published in 1997- just about when the animated series finally ended (All 110 episodes).
