Title: Are You New To Multiplayer?
Post by: Leviathan on March 27, 2007, 07:07:56 AM
Hey just wanting to know who is new to Outpost 2 multiplayer. Have you just started playing multiplayer for the first time or have you just joined OPU and got on IRC?

All of us here are happy to help you get setup and learn the ways of multiplayer and get into it all.

There are many different game types and ways people like to play.

Most players would like to be good at the game and get better as well as being able to play long slow games on big maps.

So here is a good place to start:
Mic/Ore/Armour (http://www.outpostuniverse.net/index/op2-manual_multiplayer_mic-ore-armour)
Take a read and print out the orders.

Ive also uploaded some videos to Google video:
Outpost 2 Video on Search (http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Outpost+2+Video)

Happy gaming!

Pratice makes perfect.

Post your questions and if your new just post to inform us!

Thanks :D

s***,have you sped up the video or are you really playing that fast?

That's the speed I play at. If you want to be good you have to be fast. Use hotkeys, use control groups, control locations etc. And know what you are doing before you do it. Learn the orders is a good start :)

Practice makes perfect.

Well i thought i was decent on multiplayer before seeing that video D:

since i'll never become that clicky (that was done with max ingame speed, i play at normal speed), i actually think i suck xD

oh anyway, the only thing i like from multiplayer is faster unit development and massive army clashes :D

just a stupid question: how the heck do you find the resources/workers to build 3 common smelters? When i start i have terrible morale problems with all of the colonists constantly dying, and i spend the first minutes of the game trying to stabilize morale (playing Land rush or Last one standing games with average resources, as eden).

You have to set your resources to High, and turn on Stable Morale ;)

Otherwise it will be pretty much like singleplayer (but against a human mind though)

hmm but that takes away a part of gameplay... i like outpost 2 because it's not enough to simply go create_vehicle_factory && spam_insanely_cheap_units, but you need to make your colonists happy :P

anyway that's just my personal thought :D

Then we share views on this game ;)

Most multiplayer games however, is played with Morale steady and high resources, simply because then you can get to the action faster.. Not entirely a bad thing always.

Playing the game standard way on a Landrush (No Morale, low res), will also often enough give 1 player some advantage, since you pretty much have to settle instantly, and don't have time to wander around settling on a decent base spot.

What I love about Outpost 2 is there are many ways to play it and game types.

If your into the warfare part the common settings are small map with high resources, morale steady and no attack mark.

Post your questions new players, many of us have experience, so use it! Were happy to help :)

i actually noticed that: if you start close to a mine you are indeed advantaged: if you spawn far enough, either you'll have colonists or common metals shortage.

Antway, those are long games for sure, if you want a quick game just go Hi-Res/Steady Morale :)

I was wondering... Are spawn locations random in multiplayer games or semi-random, based on starting points? I've noticed i don't usually end up in the same spot even if i am player 1.

and they are not random.

alright, I will out-n00b you all! just as I did on Sacrifice!

I have always sucked at these games, but I love them so much. especiall Outpost 2 because of the moral and just so many other aspects to it. I personally prefer Last man Standin with moral unsteady, disasteres and day and night, just to keep it relativly close to the single player game against people that can think for themselves. But my friend, whom I just told about here, is more into steady moral, no disasteres, day only on land rush.

incorrect.. most maps randomly assign the player to one location out of a fixed set. That means, the starting locations are the same all the time but the players are randomly placed (instead of just starting at the upper left and assigning each consecutive player a position going clockwise around the map, or anything like that).

However, the map can place players, mines, and any other game object it wants anywhere it wants. Starting locations could be fully random or they might not be random at all. It depends on the wishes of the map designer.

Depends how you use them and the situation. But late game you have a lot of weapons to pick from. Its good to have some of each.

There is no "unbeatable" combination. You must adjust and adapt to the situation, your "skill" with each weapon, and your own personal tastes.

let me re phrase that:

EMP, Thors Hammer or Acid Cloud, EMP?
against: EMP, ESG.

Acid clouds+EMP. Acid Cloud beats ESG if used right.

Make sure to keep a few thors around though :D

Acid is useful in many situations, but like I said, if you don't adapt to the situation it doesn't matter what you have.
For example, last night I had several Tigers (Acid/EMP/Thor) defending my base, but my opponent was trying to get past my defenses by mass-producing EMP Lynx with a few RPG Lynx thrown into the mix (it was about an 8:1 ratio). In order to win I had to mass-produce my own EMP army and then counter his swarms by pumping out Acid (and Rail Gun after I ran out of rare. Nostalgia's rare sucks).

Just goes to show that you never know what you'll need to use to win.
