That's ok. the program works with OP2 behind the scenes to make it do what has to be done.

NOTE ON SOME ERRORS:

Please, if you get any "Runtime Error", tell us where it happened, what the number and description were, and any other information you may have.

one error we are looking to fix: "Index out of bounds"

If you get that error, PLEASE TELL either I or Martyn.

We will continue to work on the system, if any major bug fixes come out, you will be able to download them (Martyn may have also decided to add auto update code, so it will automatically check for new updates for you.)

If you have any suggestions for the next version, tell us!

they wont get index out of bounds errors etc
multiplay isnt enabled, the chat side is arror free as far as we know
the errors you refred to are all multiplayer stuff

Anyway, back onto topic. (if you want to talk about the alternate universes, make a new thread in the offtopic, ok?)

Oh yeah, martyn is right. The multiplayer code (which was not released) is very buggy for now.....

Heres some suggestions that acouple of ppl and me have talked about in the chat thingy. Make it so that we can down size the damn thing and make it not always on top.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 04, 2003, 02:48:31 AM
there are reasons it is full screen, and reasons its always on top, this may not be an issue in future versions, but for the time bieng it must stay
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Leviathan on September 04, 2003, 06:43:29 AM
ok heres my post
well done so far. wp etc
i personaly feal that even if it cant join or create games it dont matter, cuz games can b done by TCP/IP. All the system has 2 do is show the IP of each player and b able 2 copy it to clipboard easyly. this is what i planed to do when i was making a WON replacement
Are you writing this in Visual Basic?
suggestions:
add join/leave messages
add timestamps for messages
add simple status system, away/afk or online
on edit profile window make it recive ur current profile so u dont have 2 re-enter it all
make it skinable, if its VB i should b able 2 do it.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 04, 2003, 07:41:17 AM
i have plans for all those, and i know how to do them as well

but theres a little thing whcih we call school that im stuck doing, i also have a job, and i also feel like sh*t a lot of the time recently and dont actully feel like working on it
but i promise you that wen i am not at work, or school, and when i m not actully depressed, i will infact make all those changes and more, the ability to start games will be present in futre versions
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: OP2Patriot on September 04, 2003, 07:36:03 PM
I remember when martyn said it'd take practically forever to finish the server. Days later he said it would only take weeks. The fact that we almost have a server is enough to be excited over.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server

so, what's the EPC?
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: OP2Patriot on September 05, 2003, 01:26:10 PM
Update: There was a non-IP game set up via the server a few minutes ago.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: BlackBox on September 05, 2003, 03:06:29 PM
I have proven.

OK. Martyn's still working on the program.

The next major release, I will be hopefully doing the client again, so you can expect the development to go about 1.5x - 2x faster. (So all the workload is not on Martyn)

Also, I continue to look for a way to execute the program via the DLL calls (rather than using the input or lots of WM_COMMAND's to get it to do what we want)

Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 08, 2003, 02:31:23 PM
well it can now create and join games with no bugs

now im just working on the extra stuff, eg participant lists, and displaying game status

but the imporatnt part of join and start is done
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Betaray on September 08, 2003, 03:48:18 PM
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw, it says that im not running the most current version, does it update automaticly, or do I have to download it again?
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: BlackBox on September 08, 2003, 04:36:29 PM
Yes. If there is a newer releasable version, the program will pop up and have you download the new one.

Dev test update as of today:

Martyn and I are abandoning the tests of today. The program got seriously messed when he bug fixed the code, and the server crashes when the game is closed.

He will try to fix it tomorrow, and we will go ahead again.

Just so I know I'm not a dumb-dumb...we can't use the multiplayer server yet, right?  I installed it and got an ID then logged in, and it won't let me create a game.  On the messages thing it says it's fully supported for multiplayer, but still testing.  So I guess still testing  :P
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 13, 2003, 03:21:29 AM
yea, we still testing

all the basic stuff works now 100%

you can make a game
have ppl join the game
then start the game

its being expanded to show things like participant lists and so on

Did you open the client directly? Or did you go through Outpost 2?

If you go through Outpost 2, hit the SIGS button and the Multiplayer Login box (for Martyn's server) should open.

If you go through the client, then you won't be able to start or join games.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Jake on September 13, 2003, 09:46:33 AM
Yes, I go through the client directly.  When I try to connect through the SIGS button, it says to check my internet connection. :(
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 13, 2003, 02:06:03 PM
the sigs button wont work unless you ahve downloaded the full install, and copied all the files to op2 directory as instrcted

if you just get the client update then it wont run from op2
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Jake on September 13, 2003, 02:08:15 PM
I DID download the full install, and put it in my OP2 directory.

Do DSL firewalls effect it?  I took mine down and it still doesn't work.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: BlackBox on September 13, 2003, 04:38:33 PM
Okay. try these fixes:

1) delete the snwvalid.dll from your system folder.

2) make SURE you put client.exe, and snwvalid.dll into your outpost install dir.

3) if you have any routers between the computer you will be using to log onto the server, and your net connection, set them so all packets that come on ports 15101, and 15102 go to that certain computer. If you can't route by port, set it so all packets from outpost.sytes.net go to that computer. Also, try shutting off ALL known firewalls.

4) Now open OP2, and click Multiplayer, then the internet (SIGS) button. The client should load after a brief pause. Try to log in as usual.

5) If you still can't log in, the reason could be because you have a dynamic IP, and the ISP changes your IP every time you send data to the net. Other reasons could be that your ISP's routers are confused by the data stream coming from the server, and don't know which computer to send it to. In this case, there is nothing you can do (you might try contacting your ISP to see if they can change it, what you'd have to tell them is "I'm trying to send and receive data from outpost.sytes.net on UDP ports 15101 and 15102, and it isn't working") Other than that, there is nothing you can do.

N/m error gone

It still doesn't let me join or host a game.
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: TH300 on September 14, 2003, 04:02:06 AM
it cannot connect to the server. I don't have a firewall and start it from op2.

Edit:
Now it works, but still cannot create a game.

create a game is disabled for the time being

and be aware that deleting any file from your system directory will affect other sierra games usuing won

another thing: When the client crashes it doesn't terminate outpost2, so that I get a lack of memory.

so ive been gone for around a week because the internet wont work, I have the earlist verson releaced, the one that can just chat, so I instal the new verson and copy everything to the op2 folder and it would work or what?

outsider: Its impossible to anticipate a crash, so equally it is impossible to recover from the crash by opening OP2 up again.

The best way to kill OP2 after the crash is A) Alt-tab to it, if possible and close it that way, or B) Ctrl+Alt+Del and kill it off that way.

It crashes - afair - when it cannot connect to the server. At least the client terminates itself.

Just another bug: as I logged off the last time, it took me to the Load Game menu.

btw: the profiles seem to be messed up again.

So how many versions are left to release before the server is bug prof?
Title: New Op2 Multiplayer Server
Post by: Martynd on September 28, 2003, 06:54:27 PM
theoreticly its done

but when its 1st being used i need 2 b there wathcing it, and in the event of a crash, i need to be there to go through the code as it happens, and due to my now developing social life, thats hard

i have a betatester with 2 machines on differnt isp's whos willing to help me, i will be doing some simulated tests with them, that way i can get my error data from them. that way, i can release it, and be out for the night without risk of it crashing

o and give me a break, i could always shut the server down and leave you to your old methods - an inactive sigs button

right, im now officially pissed off, all it is is "lets rush martyn, lets rush martyn", "whats new martyn", "wat u got done martyn", as i said in my last message IM VERY BUSY, so y today do ppl still seem to think that ill have managed to get some work done, well actully i got work done, jsut not here, i got work done at my JOB, i had an EIGHT HOUR SHIFT TODAY (which btw was stated in the away message) yet ppl still have the nerve to say that i was ignoreing them, and trying 2 piss them off. if ym away m,essage ses AWAY, then guess wat, im not at my computer, and im not there to reply, so if it ses away IM NOT INGORING YOU IM JUST NOT THERE

just so you all know (since apparently my away message isnt good enough for you) im out for 14 hours tommorow from 11am till 1am, ill be getting up, and going stright out, and coming home and going to bed, so dont expect anyhting done tommorow, as i wont b there, i wont b ignoreing u

wen i get spare time(and have calmed down from today) ill work on it, wen i work on it, ill post what i have done, so theres no need to bug me unless your wanting to talk 2 me for a friednly chat, unlike currently where every1 talks 2 me for progress reports

btw, the reason i havnt been able to get it finished is as much your fault as it is mine, i need testers, there is a vast absence of ppl online during my daytime, so im unable to test with ppl, every1 is always on line wen im tired and ready for bed

but wateva, cya around sutime

I doubt, you read this before your time is over, but if you want to test, why aren't you in the chatroom?

If you would announce the tests ppl could probably arrange something with their online-time.

Well, you actuelly are there. Good.

As I've been saying, take a break.. I know there are those who think this should be an instant job.. but I realize it isn't and thus I will wait for Martyn to announce that is it ready.. I won't go about bothering him..

It is better if he doesn't have to constantly answer questions like "Is it done yet? Why not?" because that takes his time...

If you want it done, help out.. log into the server room every once and a while (instead of pestering him on AIM) and ask if he needs testers.. as he asked for above...

This is more or less a group effort, as he can't test it because his IP is the servers...

So therefore, give Martyn some room.. and cool down your anxiousness.

it was quite interesting 2 watch how long it would take people to find it,and it was interesting to go through the logs of people trying the new game functions, to see if it was for real, or if i just forgot 2 disable them, newho, bugs use the bug report function, im not gunna spend my life checking up every forum on earth looking for posted bugs, the in client bug report button will send them direct to the server on a popup so i can see

it is now offical, i can not get the client of any version to run on my comp.

come up with a solution to this one. Run-time error '10057' socket is not connected.

used to work?

well i got your connection request, yet accoring to this u neva got the servers reply

have u put a firewall on since thenm, or use a router or something

make sure 15101 and 15102 are open (udp ports that is) and forwarding to your machine

Post by: BlackBox on November 26, 2003, 02:32:04 PM
are you using a firewall or some sort of other software like a tunnel or something?

The program doesn't even use port 10057, unless for some reason there is a bug in the run time (not likely) that is making it do some weird thing...

Also remember that it probably will not work with a router/NAT because these basically "hide" your IP address from the outside world.

Do you know about the SIGS button on Outpost 2 Multiplayer?

Well, Martyn worked on a scirpt that allows you to connect to his server for WON-like games. Basically, it is a multiplayer server. No having to swap IPs.

well back when Sierra supported it, SIGS was a place you could go to chat with other people, and have op2 games, but because the game is so old, Sierra shut it down

and we still hold a grudge

we don't have a firewall, we use proxy filters, they work so much better, but it restricts u to which sites u can go, and wht programs u can use, like gsa wont work, cause gamespyarcade is n't a site we are allowed to go to.

BTW, here's another advance:

I'm working on a java client that will allow people to access the multiplay server from anywhere.. (Obviously, you can't start/join a game, but you will be able to chat thru it.... a little like AIM Express)

This will be good for you, Beta, and other people that either can't download the client, it won't work for them, or are on a different O/S (like linux, or mac or something).

What is the address you are using?

Don't use the Multidown.htm link, as it was moved.

Use the link above in the Quick Links section, please.
