OP2 "Colony Search" ( OP2CS ).

DESCRIPTION:

You have to search Eden colony, to come back home. you are going to pass throught  rocks and of course Plymouth Enemies! It will not work on OP2, i will make it using Game Maker (http://www.gamemeaker.nl)

I can get the laser lynx, on four directions (32 or 48 pictures, can't remember). Do you want with(96 or 134 pictures)/without terrain?

 NEWS:

1. I isolated the units and building used in OP2 CS and are now scripted and ready to go.
2. I will need some time to make the friction and else.
3. Icons are great.
4. Picture still needed
5. about 25% of op2 CS is finished.
6. OP2 CS will be free! Version 1.0 will be lame. But, over versions, it will get better!
7. When the Version is finished, if someone alredy has knowlage in working with gamemaker, i'd like that OP2 CS become and multiplayer game!!!

I finnaly added a turret to our beloved actor, our Lynx! Instead using the laser, i put the Turret of EMP! It however uses Laser. I still need to work on the Enemy Vechs and Evac Vechs. More update soon. If you have icons or a good pic for OP2: CS, post it in OP2 CS bin topic!

Finnaly, i made explosion sprites, and when the enemy vech hits any object, he will reverso (cool isn't it) and after some time, drive again normally.
Added few scripts, there and there. What else... And yes...
VERSION 1.0 won't be a something...

Expect over version that some bugs WILL be fixed.
Before release day, i'l ask some people to Beta-test it.

I made version 0.5

Version 1.0 will have only 1 lvl. (let's not be so hasty)

Sounds awsome! Nice to see the work! This kind of "dedication" is what is going to keep opu alive for a long, long time. Once i become more knowlegable it this area, i plan to contribute as well.

UPDATE

Enemy can move, but still randomly, when exits the sector, he will go back

Panther scripts still not finished. Added stones, canyons, and the colony wich our hero is looking for.

when something explodes, it will not use special affects, it will use op2 standard explosion frames

The laser shot lasts now a little less longer. The laser is not one continious line, the laser moves N W E S.

I haven't still scripted the microwave emitter and microwave waves.

I got an idea for mission 2

You will have to follow evac trucks to a location, and safekeep them from plymouth

UPDATE

Lynx and Panther can shoot. Lynx fires one Laser-emp shot and panther fires tho Laser-emp shots. Speed of firing is increased, speed decreased. Added the suicide button. :P if you wish to end this all. Still, there are some graphic bugs, when panther and lynx shoots bullet S and W. Graphics smoothed. Added cursor with sign "F5 to Save and F6 to Load", Save/load function working. About 75% of the game is finished, but this is the toughest 25% ever! The history of Colony Searchers is added, Laser-emp shot is more futuristic (hey, isn't that secret weapon?) Vehicle invulnerable to any kind of EMp by Eden tech. Plymouthers have stolen the Eden tech, so our hero is only vulnerable to explosions and lasers. The colony is a bit more bigger. Added a construction site near our hero. No tubes. If I can, i'l add Savant's voice to speak when our vech is damaged...

Nobody seems to keep in mind that putting anything outpost 1 or 2 related on anything they make is illegal. the name outpost 1 or outpost 2, the likeness of any vehicle or anything resembling content from the games is breaking copyright law. we need to be coming up with new ideas for our own games. little things like flash games can skate by this if theyre nice but usually an executable gets the eye from lawyers.

There are much bigger concerns to address (along the same lines) than that dm-horus, if you're worried about copyright infringement..

Yeah, well, from what I hear fan sites are illegal. As is fan art and any kind of fan fiction. Basically this whole site could be considered illegal. I don't see any reason to single out this project. But even if fan sites are illegal that doesn't stop sites like this from appearing. Besides, many publishers enjoy the free advertising they usually amount to, or at least enjoy that fact that someone has enjoyed their work enough to make their own derivatives of it.

Besides, who would you ask for permission? The company that originally produced it doesn't exist, so you can't ask them. The company that bought out that company doesn't seem to acknowledge the existence of the game, so what are they going to say? And even then, who exactly do you ask? Most people here don't really know what the exact status of the copyright is, or who owns it, and even if we did, who in some big corporation would we ask who actually knew something about it or could give permission.

I'd say if you enjoy doing it, then go ahead and finish it. If someone actually took offense to anything on here and had some legal claim to the copyright, then I'd imagine they'd just ask us to take it down and we'd do it. Besides, gpgarrettboast is right. If they wanted to cause trouble over copyright issues, it would have been done long ago. And keep in mind that people who worked on the design of OP2 know about this place and have either sent or replied to emails here (positively).

Uh-oh.
Well i knew (i think) that OP2 and OP1 were copyrighted along with all logo's pics and graphics.

But yeah as you here said, the company denies that OP2 and OP1 exists, and that company what maid op2 is dead. (probably)

Now, yeah. How long opu exists? Someone has (surely) found out about this forums, but the don't give f***. Why? I don't know.

Now, if there is ANY problems about copyright, i WILL not release the game.

The last thing i need is to get sued. (is it rightly spelled?)

As has been previously commented when fears about retribution from VU or Sierra came up - very few gaming companies chase down people who create fan games. If its free, and credit is paid where it is due, I doubt they will care.

1. these "old" versions were lower than 1.0, so i don't see a reason to post em, nobody even downloaded that stuff
2. Do you see mass companies that produce games to put A GAME (well they place pics and video) in a lower phase of construction?
3. Anyways... It seems  that i've got problems with posting it on the forums. I'm trying to find a way.

I don't think you should take the criticism too seriously. Didn't seem like anyone was trying to be an ass (except maybe hours). Even if the game lacks spit and polish, it's still pretty much the only standalone outpost themed game anyone here has ever released. Come to think of it, I really can't think of any others at all.

Colony X is probably the closest other product.

Dude, don't give up already. I only remember reading one truly negative comment and several people offered to help with graphics. I think you are (unfortunately) suffering from the same lashings that plague the OP3 developers. It might explain why they're afraid to offer up anything...

I was merely pointing out problems that I noticed with it.   Its a work in progress, obviously.   Thats just how I spit out bug reports, not exactly friendly.    As I said, it has a lot of potential, just needs a little bit of fixing.

Yesterday, i tried to convert the op2 music, into MIDI, but i failed...
Now with the good news: The enemy vechs are now more recognizeable ( i painted the in red) Graphics improved, smoothed the edges of terrain, so it should look a bit better....
I'm making mission 2, more details are coming soon...

And:
Everyone can post comments or put ideas so i can enchance the game to a new level!

Comment: and yes, if you feel that you were not shown on the credits, but you have helped me, please tell me.

Baikon, by spitting out the bugs (not real living bugs) you helped me REAL.
Not even i knew about som of these bugs... Now, when the next version arrives, feel free to bug-report the game. And, make sure you bug-report every one of them!

NEWS ON THE FRONT:
Hurray... the op2cs project is going smooth... just one note: The second mission of op2cs will be in version 2.0 . Reason, I am working alone down there..... Never mind

The hyper-good news.
By the begining of the next month, i will be issuing op-pacman! It will be the same as pacman, just you CAN choose who would you like to be: Plymouth Or Eden! Only difference is that you will not pickup any of these s***s that make your opponents eat-able (you remeber that little thing) You will gonna BLAST em with the good ol' laser.
More info comming soon...

nah... they are several bugs in GM, sooo.... it means that you must have a good: graphics & sounds cards. I don't see any problem at me... it works soooooothly at me.

And yes... about the news part.... I TOTALLY FORGOT ON OP2CS! LOL! Ok...ooooook....
Now, as soon i find some time between building the robot and school.... i might do it.....

Now i was trying to fix the "sound" bug (the bug where you can hear every shot fired where ever you are) and i.. failed. It seems impossible, but i'l come to the solution sooner or later. (prolly later :P )

Few fixes there n' there...

OH OH... NEWS TIME!

I have fixed more bugs and more thingy's but the sound bug is still a problem...
I made that you can choose if you wish to play Newbie Mode (arrows are displayed) or Elite mode (no arrows, bigger enemy rate of fire)...
Muwhahahahaha...
By the end of this day... Version 1.5 will be pulished....

- When driving into enemies, it either slows them down or they stop entirely.

Oh, Oh... NEWS!!!

Fire... and debries on every destroyed and damaged building-vech.
The sound bug is still a big bugger.
Enemy is a little bit more intelligent
Fixed the map problems ( look at the 1. image that baikon posted.)
About AI units going through cliffs... i didn't see any problems, prolly sthe script missed a few info's and let him inside, and not letting him out.
When i was playing, i didn't see any map problems.
What else...
added few eden vechicles (of course destroyed, yiu really thought i will give you support on the mission ?!?!?!?! ? ) :P
...
And yes, i think i deserves a "well done" or a "good work Savant" :P :P :P :P :P :P !

*YAWN*... News....

Yet more bugs fixed
Yet more intelligent enemies...
yet more.... um.... better processed map.
Yet more details.
yet more work :P

I added a script, (very easy one) to improve the intelligence of enemies ( thus i am not sure if it works, they are dumb as always)
Damn sound bug, it is still there.
I added cargo truck debries, and more fire sprites....
 :evil laugh: the "Elite" mode of playing is more EVIL than ever...  :Cool:
however, i am  :unsure: will the game work on other machines, few people that downloaded the game couldn't start the game, but i think the problem is the Sound card, or grapchics card. You have to have ATI graphics card.

Any comments?
Anything that you want/don't want in the game, plase feel free to post.

PROGRESS

I finnaly discovered, why some games refuse to play on some machines:
Here it goes:

Because when I am programmin the game on my comp. it uses the configuration of my system and stores it into the game to work. However, if i have DirectX 9.0c, and the Chunki-Wungi guy that downloaded the game has directx 8.0 IT WON'T WORK
And the same with drivers and music cards.(sound card.... arrgh i don't remeber the name)

Now, the info about the game:

I have used a script to make that fire don't look the same (The sprite changs the slides at the same time, so they look the same (just their size is not the same))
Just few more days unitl release of version 1.6 (i am still not ready for 2.o :P )
I'l keep you informed.

I'd assume that's just the minimum requirement of the Game Maker program.. Even if you have DirectX 9.0c installed it is still possible to write software that only requires DirectX 8 (you could go back to DirectX 5 and code for it, if you really wanted to). Of course, you wouldn't be able to use newer features (like shaders) in really old DirectX versions.

For the record, it ran fine on my old desktop (nVidia TNT2 PRO). Haven't tried yet with this machine (which contains an nVidia Geforce GO 7400).

Sound support should be more or less universal, so long as the sound driver supports DirectSound (find me a modern sound driver that doesn't?!)

I idled a bit, beacuse i made very one detail to op2cs, except one, the sound bug.
It seems that the computer uses script:

in chance 1 to 20  fires one shot and plays a sound. However, i have to MAKE a script, not a finished script, to fix the problem. As you alredy know the SB was a problem with the begining of the game.
I got some little problems on scripting that, but i think it can be done.

The script should do that the enemy fires, but not making any sound.

Althrough OP2CS is dead. To be more precise, the source code is gone...

Another Gamemaker based game will be published when it is done.

The next game, which name is still to be dubbed, will be a sequel to OP2CS
