First of all, go here (http://skype.com/) to download Skype (http://skype.com/).

Who already has Skype? Myself and Levi do.

Contact me by typing my name into Skype!

The quality is crystal clear, but it lags my computer like you wouldn't believe. If I'm ever using Skype, it's the only thing I can do.

I just tend to break up a lot when I use it. I use it for gaming in GW with my clanmates, been using it quite a long time lol. Its better that TS.

Hooman, what kind of connection do you have? Im running 56k and its great for me. The only time it sounded bad was when I forgot to turn off the torrents I was downloading. Ive never had lag, either. Thats the first time Ive ever heard of Skype lagging someone out.

It's not my connection. It's my computer. I have an 800 MHz Celeron with 192 MB of RAM running Win XP. It doesn't take much to push my computer over the edge, and Skype brings it very very close.

Just got it, doesn't seem to lag my computer too bad, at least when I tried calling the "Test Call" (and my machine is ancient -- 700 P3 with 768MB ram).

Can't really use it too much though until I dig out a microphone from somewhere. Maybe later tonight. (Should probably find headphones too, so there isn't this annoying echo through the speakers).

It doesn't cost anything for Skype->Skype calls.

You start paying for extra features like being able to call out to landline phones (their site claims calls to US and Canada numbers are free until the end of the year however), or having a real phone number that is linked to your Skype account.

Hacker, I think your RAM could be making all the difference.  :o

Yeah, maybe :P

The P3 might be beating out the Celeron as well (wasn't Celeron supposed to be a very budget CPU? Maybe missing stuff like SSE?)

Yes, it is very budget. Not much in the way of features or speed. But hey, it was a free hand me down, and a big step up from 200 MHz.

Skype is free to use. It offers some pay features, but just don't use them. It's not like it will let you use them anyways unless you've paid. As far as I'm concerned it's just like any other p2p voice chat software out there, except the quality of sound is better (or at least no worse) and it's as easy to use as any instant messenger.
