Description:
We could develop a sturucture that locks on to meteors as there coming down, and using short bursts of the tractor pulse it would redirect the meteor away from the colony. This could be used to redirect the meteor to hit the enemy colony. It could also be used as a weapon to rip apart units and buildings. (this technology is plymouth only because Eden has meteor defence already)
This is a good idea, because:
-it gives plymouth meteor defences
-it could be used as a massive weapon
-it would about equal a Thors Hammer with one shot
This is a bad idea, because:
-it could rip apart a lynx in one shot, severly damage a panther or get a tigger down to about 50hp

Tractor Beams are for Star Wars / Star Trek, let's not combine them.
The energy and power required for a technique like this is immense.... and the speed at which meteors go through the atmosphere would be much too fast for a tractor beam to alter the path enough to save a colony. Also, it would affect the air around it, creating a high pressure point in the place the beam was emitted. This can damage other structures and vehicles nearby

What about as a powerful weapon then? You could balance it with a SUPER high power requirement. Like it would need 3 tokamaks to power just it on its own, and couldnt be on a unit because of the size needed for the power core.

Tossing down space rocks on other peoples bases by using a TRACTOR BEAM is bull s***.

if i had the power to pull down space rocks on people there would be alot of dead people. We dont need super doomsday weapons.

Well the original idea was as meteor defence for plymouth, but that was denied.

Before you go around balancing the colonies you have to consider their virtues and technological capabilties. Plymouth has no Meteor Defense because they believe nature should be allowed to take its course (thus their opposition to terraformation of New Terra). Eden, on the other hand, believes technology should be used to transform nature to comply with the will of humanity, which is why they tried to terraform New Terra and developed the Meteor Defense. If anyone had a tractor beam, it would be Eden due to its technological superiority over Plymouth and they don't mind manipulating natural forces for their own purposes. Which is also why Eden has a lightning gun, while Plymouth relies on explosives and foam grenades.
