Buildings can catch fire

Originally proposed by leeor_net (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=2067&st=0&#entry38404)

Related ideas:

- Colonists walking around outside (http://forum.outpostuniverse.net/index.php?showtopic=2741)

Description:

An Adv. Lab. for example would continually lose HP and finally explode if not repaired.

This is a good idea, because:

- makes the game more realistic.
- additional challange.

Yeah, actually this would be really nice and add some extra reality. Maybe if you make so that the fire may go off 'spontaneously' if a DIRT is active (hey, they have fire extinguishers!) then this would be tons of rocks!

adv. labs already explode when damaged, but do so suddenly and do not show a gradual decrease in hp.

adding damage over time and fire would be good and works with canon because adv labs contain large amounts of toxic, caustic and flammable materials which would burn in the co2 atmosphere of new terra. unfortunately the only places i could see actually having fire and it not breaking the laws of physics is the adv lab. no other structures contain enough flammable material to burn without the presense of oxygen except perhaps the smelter or various power plants or mines.

You do realize this is not New Terra. This is on Cythera. But good idea though. You could also have a reaserch that could make it more safe and contained to reduce the accidents.

New terra and this other planet are both hostile environments that will not support a flame other then plasma.

Even tho the buildings burned in Starcraft remember these arent wooden huts there metal buildings with burnable stuff in them once there open to the enviroment the air gets sucked up because of hi to low or low to high and makes it so there is no fire.

Having buildings on fire isnt good any way because fire only adds.  Just have building damage like op2 where it starts to look battered and worn.  And then once there damaged enough they idle.

Reduction of damage and such is done by the Dirt and it has a upgrade already

if there is oxygen in the planets air there could be fires.

which would be cool. maybe have internal structure fires also?

lol if there is a internal fire people would put it out the idea that the fire would just sit there and burn is ridiculous.

yea they could just seal off the area and the fire would quickly use up the last of its oxygen and go out

but also having a gaping hole in the roof of an agradome yet it can still produce food is equally ridiculous

Then how could there be fires?

well for one, the buildings have people in them, and that normally requires Air, that has oxygen in it, you put 2 and 2 together

There wouldn't be fires. That's the point.

there would be internal fires, that's inevitable, but nothing on the scale that would compromise the integrity of the building
